Manu on NFI

Could be somebody super simple. Could have caught the bug that Mahogany has. Thats why hes on NFI. Odds are they work out together so wouldnt be shocked if he got sick

Yep, that was my guess. I’d have to imagine if Manu showed up out of shape, it would be an instant cut. Campbell has pretty much spelled out that the writing is on the wall for Manu already, so if he can’t practice, there’s a good chance the team moves on from him before the season even starts.

Manu and BroMart (to a lesser extent) will always be the Holmes picks that made no sense to me. BroMart at least played college football, and I get the allure of the rare man mountain who can just stand there and plug the gap. Manu didn’t even play decent competition football, and is put at a far more difficult position than NT where you don’t need real athleticism snap to snap like you do as an OT. Holmes said when he got to Detroit, they would focus on finding football players, guys who showed they can handle competition in the highest levels. Not just physical specimen guys who played football. However, that’s exactly what he did with BroMart and Manu. I think Holmes did get full of himself for the draft successes, got himself out of his own process, and now finally has gotten himself back to what worked.

That’s the last week of October at the earliest, if he’s referring to recovery time.

100% These were huge mistakes on several levels. Whenever we have drafted a really good college player in a position of need … that didn’t quite work out, I’ve never been too annoyed. It happens.
But when we trade up and take flyers on dudes from left field, it just looks dumb and I lose confidence that the GM has any brain power.

He needs to get cut.

Depends on how the injury happened.

If it was from working out with too much intensity and he hurt himself, he can be forgiven for that. And there would be no point in cutting him now if he was just trying to make himself better.

If it was from doing something stupid, yeah, no problem cutting him. Though that still would not be the most prudent approach from a bigger picture standpoint. I’m guessing they will give him to the end of this season to prove he belongs in the NFL. Not looking good at this moment, that’s for sure.

Fair point.

Just what Manu needs. He won’t be back till Nov or almost Thanksgiving at 12-14 weeks.

IMO Campbell just threw some numbers out there. He did not come across as serious about the time frame and was basically saying he had no time frame at this time, but the media never accepts that answer.

Ooooof hes done.

Cut with injury settlement basically half the season so $600,000? @DeadStroke sound about right?

Brad better hope the other drafties step up big time.

Levi, rodrego, rakestraw, vaki, wingo, Hogs/Fraizer. These guys NEED to prove it. Cant have all these draft busts and expect to grow as a team.

Iffy - gone, Paschal - Career is dead, Kerby - Likely toast, hooker - blows, bromart - blows, soradal - lmfao, Arnold - Jumpsuit, Manu - Dead

Thats 8 draft picks in 4 years that haven’t helped this team. Sure no GM bats 1000. But you need to have them be at a MINIMUM be serviceable to win the superbowl.

ESPECIALLY when a good amount of those players they moved UP to get them. So really its more like 12 blown draft picks. Cant blow 3 picks a year and expect to get better.

On Thursday, coach Dan Campbell gave some clarity, and it wasn’t good news for the third-year offensive tackle. According to Campbell, Manu had an offseason injury that wasn’t reported to the team, and he started to feel it again after practice.

ā€œWe obviously put him on NFI. And he had an injury, a previous injury over the summer that was not disclosed,ā€ Campbell said. ā€œAnd so (he) came off the practice field, didn’t feel good, got it checked, sure enough, that’s what it was.ā€

Campbell estimated Manu will be out around three months, which means he’s almost certainly going to start the season on the PUP list and miss at least the first four games of the season.

ā€œSo, he will be out for a period of time. I don’t know how long that’s going to be; call it 12 weeks, 14 weeks. I don’t know, we’ll figure it out all down the road, but he is NFI,ā€ Campbell said.

Man-who?

NFL Players on NFI do not earn any NFL service credit (neither an accrued season for free agency nor a credited season for pension/benefits) for that year. Under the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, time spent entirely on the NFI list does not count as full pay status, failing the requirement of being on the roster for 6 regular season games at full pay.

This should be the official end of Manu. Not disclosing the injury ahead of time? That’s at best dishonest and at worst dangerous.

Manu already knew he was on the cut line. Not disclosing that he was hurt and trying to practice, we can be generous and say that he was trying to push through it and hoping it wouldn’t affect him playing football. One can also make the argument that he was hoping that if it did flare up, the team would believe that the injury was a camp injury, and he gets another paid rehab stint.

No way would I tolerate this. If he was severely hurt on the field due to hiding a pre-existing injury, that would be a horrible look for the team and physicians for not catching it in advance. My guess is, when he came off the field hurt, the physicians knew quickly that whatever the injury was had to be old, and Manu finally fessed up once Campbell heard from the medical staff.

Well, clearly Maakaron has nothing to lose at this point.

And it’s not really sounding like this was a workout injury. He’s definitely in the doghouse and may in fact be cut at some point soon. Really not much point if he’s on the NFI though.

I think so. Campbell seemed annoyed and mentioned he didnt disclose the injury to them. He was on the bubble anyway, he needed a big training camp. He said hes out 12-14 weeks. Thats a wrap for his career here. What a wasted pick.
