Matt Miller's 2 round mock draft

Agree with all of this

I’ve heard people love him more for his blocking. Like he could legitimately play tackle in the NFL.

I watched every game he played in and I’m totally against it. The guy didn’t start, he was brought as a pass rush specialist and in that role he was OK. He was tied for 69th in sacks this year…69th. He’s young and I’m sure he will continue to improve but he’s not an upgrade over Houston and he’s not a 3 down player.

Did they have any other good TEs that they preferred featuring in the passing game? I can’t remember.

Washington is better Pettigrew. That’s the style of TE I’m after. If Josh Whyle (or whoever) can be that, cool.

Can he play FB, though.

Love it.

Now there is a damn good thought. I have heard the hypothesis about using the TE more as a lead blocker and maybe making their full back ancient history.

Well if they don’t love him for his blocking then there’s not a big reason to love him at all. I wanted Jehlani Woods last year, I pounded the table for him and then he goes to the combine and his scores added up to an RAS of 9.97 or 10 depending on the site, best TE RAS ever. So, his stock went up and he was taken in the 3rd round. Now, at OK St he was used exclusively as a blocker, but then he went to Virginia and had 44 receptions for 598 yards in his last season. Could Washington’s numbers take a leap like that in the pro’s, not likely. Woods is also 6’7" weighs about 20# less but is faster. Pass, TE isn’t a need here. Last year with an injured Hock and UDFA backup’s with little to no experience in the pass game, I was all over getting a TE. We got Mitchell and picked up some more UDFA’s who caught 40 of 50 passes this last year. We have bigger fish to fry.

Yeah they had the best TE in the country Bowers to go with Washington.

Anybody that watched Washington knows he is a big time asset in the pass game. And is touted for his blocking.

Georgia has a million weapons to spread the ball around too.

Yes, can’t remember his name off the top of my head but yes.

Honestly why didn’t Tim Tebow, Charlie Ward, Danny Weurfell, Matt Leinhart, etc go on to be great NFL QBs

I mean stats are everything right

So the argument is that he is a great blocker. Well, do you want a great blocker at TE or OG? We used a lot of different players to backup our OL last season and yet our QB sack count was low and our RB yards went up. Sorry, I want to fix that OG position well before I would even consider a TE.

Ideally getting a dominant RG next to Sewell and a stud TE that can block better or as well as Nelson, but obviously be a unicorn of sorts in the pass game/redzone would be best.

All this will be moot come draft day, as I don’t think Washington will be available for our Day 2 picks.

Good comparison for Jelani Woods.

Brock Bowers is the most dangerous receiving TE I can recall. Curious to see how high he goes next year. He’s incredible.

Stats at Georgia are how Georgia used him, as the #2 blocking TE (because they have the best receiving TE I’ve seen in some time and will likely be a top 10 pick in next year’s draft). It wasn’t from lack of ability to block/catch on Washington’s part.

Washington is EXACTLY what I want in the TE position. Big, strong, looks to punish the guy he is blocking (or trying to tackle him). I have a feeling that Dan/Ben will figure out how to incorporate him into the offense (as would ANY other team in the league). That’s why I think he goes in the 1st round. Any team would LOVE to have him on their roster.

George Kittle had 48 receptions in 4 years at Iowa.

You know he was timed at a 4.5 40 before college and he has great hands. I could see him line up outside, a lot, in the NFL. The very first play here that’s where he’s at. You’ll see that, you’ll see jet sweeps,(I mean who does that with a TE?), some really incredible play AND play calling. BTW, Stetson does a good job of hitting him in stride, I’m a fan of his game as well for a 6th round pick.

Yeah he’s like 235lbs I believe so he’s really big skill rather than TE.

Anyone else first read the title as “Matt Millen’s 2 round mock draft”?

Was the worst use of such a great resource and IOWA fans knew it. His QB was also drafted by SF, and CJ knew he could play. BTW I told a buddy of mine who had asked about a TE for his fantasy league to take him, Cochise on the original Lions board and ManeLion later, and he won his league. WE knew, incredible that “TE University” didn’t.
