I love both hope and rivers. DePaula is ranked a little higher and has a little better bat to ball skills than Hope, but Hope has a far better arm and plays better defense. Both have plus power.
I’ve been on the River Ryan bus for a while. He’s old for a prospect but his stuff profiles as an ace.
There’s a lot of people who seem to think SD is our best option to get the most in return.
With Skubal coming off elbow surgery his stock is down some too.
However, A.J. Preller is widely known as the most aggressive executive in MLB. Many believe that if a superstar like Skubal is available, Preller will willingly trade away high-end prospects to win a World Series.
In my opinion any trade should require the team to offer a combination of top100 caliber talent and near MLB ready arms.
Ethan Salas is rumored to be potentially part of the trade. If so the trade could look something like this.
C Ethan Salas (Padres No. 1 Prospect)
RHP Miguel Mendez (Padres No. 3 Prospect)
Then you could hopefully get some developmental pitching prospects in this trade too.
I do think SD is a real possibility if they offer up Salas. Without Salas I’m not sure they have enough in the rest to make it happen.
Salas is the exception. You can just make a blanket statement like that without realizing who Salas is.
He’s the top C prospect out there and he’s a top 5 MLB catcher per the Athletic rankings. That dude is a stud. A player like him would never be considered in a trade. But without him i don’t think SD has the ammunition. With him they do. But it will require Mendez and more.
He’s the #51 prospect in all of baseball. The Tigers currently have a young gold glove catcher who’s on pace to hit 30 bombs with great underlying metrics.
I’m not interested in trading Skubal for a backup catcher with a slightly below average hit tool that’s a year or two away.
Skubal threw a 4 inning simulated game today. He gave up 2 hits and struck out 6. 45 of his 64 pitches were strikes and he induced a crazy 10 swing and misses.
He is expected to throw one more Sim game, then one rehab game, and assuming all is good he is expected to start for the Tigers in the middle of this month.
Salas is 20 and it is starting to click for him. Immense ceiling, but struggled hard for ages 18 and 19. Probably not the headliner for us with Dingler in year 2 witha GG and power amd leading MLB in ABS overturn %.
For one respect I want the Dodgers because they literally can’t do a damn thing or the prospects they have as far as the ones that people are looking to assign to this trade. So why not overbid make sure you get your guy? I would in that case, lose the battle win the war.
I would prefer National League but it’s not necessary. The mention of the Soto trade earlier in the threat is a little bit of apples to oranges not only because of position player to pitcher but because the the Padres gave up an absolute men for him because he had more years of control left than Skub does.
Then again, this has never ever happened before, trading a two-time Cy Young Award winner away from his original team before the age of 30. Oh wait a minute it has happened before and it was a Tiger…. But that’s kind of ancient history with a lot of extra baggage that facilitated the trade. So really no one has ever gotten a top of their game two-time Cy Young Award winner before age 30 in a trade ever.
Harris should be asking for the Moon. Maybe even a deal similar to the Soto haul (CJ Abrams, James Wood, Mackenzie Gore, Bobby Hassell III and reliever prospect Jarlin Sussana.)
Maybe strip out the CJ Abrams equivalency.
Dodgers, Cubs would be the leaders in that scenario.
The last thing I want for Skubal are pitching prospects—unless it is a couple strong relief guys along with some hitters. This team needs major league hitters.
It’s gonna be non stop rumours the next 6 weeks… but the main key and by far the biggest key is Skubal needs to look awesome when he comes back mid June. His value goes through the roof with a couple nasty starts in mid to late June. If he comes back and struggles or the velo is down that changes everything
