The analytics do favor Dan’s approach. But like you I don’t care.
“The Analytics” are generalized.
They don’t take into account the weakness of our Interior OL and the play Dan will call. Both of which can make our results fall below the results that “The Analytics” show.
It’s not that for me. It’s just about making it a one score game. K. I.S.S. approach.
Thank you for saying this… because this is EXACTLY what we need to snap out of coach’s head

. Like any coach should or would give two shits about what fans think. Laughable. Any and every coach worth a hill of beans does it the their way…as they should.
Packers convert on 4th down and win the game
Details, details.
as for the league copying…nobody does it as much or as reckless as Dan does
Got us to 15 - 2. But whatever…it’s easy to pile on immediately after the 4ths fail. Did you post similar things when we were 60% successful in 2022? I doubt it. Now I think Dan’s play calling has sucked on 4th downs, but that’s not a reason to say we shouldn’t go for it. We need more innovation than slamming a smallish scat back into the our inferior iOL and a stacked dline. Execution not philosophy.
I’m pretty sure Jared “kill” almost every play on 4th down to a run
Dan and company have gotten outcoached
A lot this year. Phillly, Giants ,Packers Just in the last three weeks. What seemed like a good idea when he took over play calling. May gave backfired. Dan himself has to reset.
The defense has been bad and mostly
Healthy. That’s the most disappointing thing.

Someone had mentioned that after the Giants game and I know there were at least a couple of plays yesterday where he yelled “kill” and they passed the ball.
Your Oline is questionable and you go for it at mid field?
It is just hard to watch.
I get the going for a TD down by the end zone. But the midfield shite is getting old.
But the midfield shite is getting old
I would just say it’s getting old because it’s not working. Unfortunately, the fourth down pass that was slightly behind Jamo, that he dropped, might’ve been a house call. I still believe a lot of this failure is playcalling and execution.
Yes 100% it is execution.
Know your team. Do you have 11 dudes on the field that you know will executed and at least stalemate their 1v1?
If the answer is no then you go into the equation of how many are a yes and no?
Right now I would say they are at 2-3 dudes missing or not executing. Which it now seems like a much bigger risk. Especially when you need 9 for sure to be on point to run the ball?
The decision is bad because you do not need to take that big of risk to win and you also do not have the players to do it.
You go for it in my mind because of 2 scenarios:
1- your team is not good enough to win without taking risks
2- your team can executed at a consistent high rate so you have low risk of failure
Those to me are the main 2 questions you ask yourself before going for it at mid field. The goal line stuff is more analytics to me and has way more game play logic coming into play. But for the mid field I think those are the 2 things you ask yourself. And I am not taking about late in 4th quarter down by a score or 2. Taking first 3 quarters and early 4th.
Overrated coach. He lived off a great offense the last two years
Morton probably sitting up in the booth, stretched out, feet up, hands clasp behind his head saying “This play calling shit ain’t easy, is it Dan???”
I’m just not that worked up about the fourth down calls. I thought Lafleur was dumb to go for it on a couple of his 4th down calls….would have been game changers to their hurt if they didn’t convert. They converted so he’s great. Campbell didn’t, so he’s the knucklehead. I still feel like we’ve won more games over the last few years because he took the risk and got 7 instead of 3 or a punt than we’ve lost because he took the risk. So even when I maybe would have done something different, I don’t get too worked up…..my choices would have lost other games. I’m probably more annoyed at the timeout they gave to Lafleur clearly late and the out of bounds touchdown (I need to check that replay again, though)…..those were bigger gamechangers.

We didn’t have this OLine the last two years so that is an invalid compairison
As much as I love Dan, this team is clearly better with him focused solely on being HC. Since taking over OC duties, the defense has looked worse, and the balance of the team has suffered. His OC hires have been frustrating—Lynn was forgivable as a first try, but Morton was a miss for a roster ready to win. If Dan wants to keep play-calling long term, he needs a proven DC who can run that unit independently (think Fangio, Joseph, Spags). Bottom line: the Lions operate best when Dan is the true HC, not buried in OC responsibilities.
And the Oline is really the issue.
Make it make sense.
MCDC is being honestly dumb and reckless. Again the mid field stuff with this squad makes no sense.
The goal line stuff I can follow the logic and game analytics. But this team does not execute well enough to capitalize on if the even get the 1st down at mid field. So why are you doing it?

Here it is. You nailed it.
Time to adapt MCDC, stop asking your defense to bail you out time and time again giving them the ball at midfield.
Time to put your big boy pants on and win the slug it out games with field position and defense.
Punter & Kicker are weapons .
It helps the offense too in the long run
This is a poorly coached team ATM all the way around. The lose of Ben Johnson has set this team back. Dan seems lost. Trying to do to much on offense and has hurt his ability to keep up with the rest of the team. The offense is still so inconsistent and just not very good. And now the rest of the team is following suit. We are sloppy in all phases. And Dans having a lot of trouble adjusting, he is calling the game and 4th down plays like we’re still this dominant offense and we’re not, we do not have the Oline to impose our will like before, but Dan calls the game like we do. And is getting his team beat
What is going on with the defense as of late?
The regression we are seeing on offense this year is 100% expected (other than for those Lion’s fans that didn’t think Ben Johnson was good) + the downgrade in interior Oline play.
The defense finally being healthy should have been enough to offset the step backwards from the offense. Unfortunately as of late not the case.
