MCDC on the MacAfee Show 3pm EST

Expect a fairly significant RB FA signing, that’s the between the lines I heard…

MacAfee says he thinks MCDC might be a deep thinker.
I agree with him, but Dan is also a quick thinker. Nobody catches him off guard. At least they haven’t yet and I love his comeback answers.
If he can get this team winning can he change the culture of the Detroit press?
They’ll be eating out of his hand.

I liked when he talked about when he first got the coaching bug, coaching up a kid who was getting destroyed at a camp. When he saw the kid do exactly what he told him to do and won the rep, it gave him a ton of satisfaction. Then McAfee said “that kid ended up being Kyle Rudolph…” and I don’t know if that was said in jest, or true story.

Reading the comments on the youtube video and it’s mostly all positive. MC/DC bringing the Lions many new fans and supporters.

If he turns the Lions into a winner, he’s going to be a legend.

They laughed way too hard for that not to be jest.

The thing I’m most struck by is his genuine intent to communicate.

In his various sit-down sessions after each session at the podium, he’s gone back around to clarify the points he was trying to make.

That tells me a few things:
He has a point that’s personal or at the very least somewhat important to him.
He cares that the audience/people/fans are receiving the message/point.
He’s listening to reactions enough to circle back around to provide clarification.

When he talks about priding himself on being a good communicator and listener, I see enough evidence to believe that 100%. I’m not saying he’s a great leader or even a great coach, as that remains to be seen. But in the season of a new regime where there is a lot of scripted talking points (his constant praise of Shiela, the new coaches’ consistent recital of “first of all, we’re here because of Dan”) I can conclude confidently that he really is focused on communicating effectively. It’s obviously a conviction.

Some guys just want to come down from the mountain top and drop wisdom through a story.

Some guys think they’re God’s gift to the listener and they’ll hear simply because he’s the one speaking.

Some guys have a genuine concern that you’re picking up what they’re laying down. Dan’s that guy.

As a lifelong Dodger fan, I’m going to go with… well… very well. Hero status in my eyes. Love that man, even more as a man than a player, and that’s a rarity in today’s world. Barry is about the only other player/man I can put up on Gibby’s level.

I’m a Giants fan. Please don’t stab me.

I didn’t say I sat in the pavilion… you’re safe haha.

I think the years with Sean Payton really prepared him for this. He’s been thinking the way a head coach thinks about things for years now – as well as running through his head what he would do differently if he could from his interim Miami stint.

I see a prepared guy who understands what he wants to be/do.

I agree. The part where he talked about the Buffalo loss and him being unprepared speaks volumes.
He seems to have his ego in check, but he doesn’t want to be humiliated in any way, or let his guys down. Those are two powerful driving forces.

Great post, bro. In terms of being a deep thinker, to me, it’s more a matter of getting used to thinking a certain way. Dan claims to be from the “become water” speech that Bruce Lee gave. It’s about feeling what is happening, and adapting, while still being 100% yourself.

As that pertains to football, his principle of attacking their weakness while remaining in your own strength.

Ever played chess with someone who you were clearly smarter than, and had your ass handed to you? Ever played video games with someone who has slower reflexes and had your ass handed to you?

Clarity gives us focus.
Focus gives us the ability to anticipate, as well as remain in touch with the vision/goal.
Combine these principles with the idea of “become water”…removal of ego not trying to force things a certain way. …it is thinking a certain way. When you get used to thinking this way, and becoming part of the game, getting into the energy of it, letting it come to you…through this, you develop a better sense of what the opponent is trying to do to you, and better understand how to counter/what you can do to them.

Patricia was the master of trying to force his way. He was the exact opposite of “become water”.

Like macro-level martial arts.
Patricia would get choked out every time. LOL. Bad analogy for him, considering his commitment to fitness.
