Edit: added media sessions for players and coaches
You watch these and hang on every word, then you think … man Patricia was an asshat. How’d he ever get a job. Love our coach! Keep doing you Dan!
So Bromart did not pull an Alim this past off-season. Darn!
Let me summarize for those without time to watch…
The Lions are amazing, everyone else sucks.
The end.
He was asked about the importance of sacks which then went into Sacks vs Pressures and importance of each. It was a good, albeit brief, discussion.
I couldn’t hear the question so I may have missed the full point from the reporter.
The biggest thing I took from today was that Hendon Hooker has not been great so far. He said he had a nice day yesterday and saw some growth which he needed to see. To me that means they haven’t been super pleased with what they’ve seen thus far. For anyone who thinks Hooker is the future starter of this team, they should probably think again.
I’m not reading much of anything into OTA performances, way too early to know anything of significance with regards to HH. And, I’m one of his skeptics.
They were also moments of incredible displays of how adept Dan is communicating in the moment and on the fly. His pause on Brock Wright lingered in the air to hammer home his importance to the team, his humor and self effacing nature when his lecturn wobbled— those things have a life of their own beyond any feeble praise or bland answer he could mouth.
I love me my Dan Campbell. He’s a real life superhero.
I’m not too concerned about how our developmental third round backup quarterback looks in OTAs
It’s no surprise Hooker isn’t ready to run this offense. But looking forward to seeing his progress as our backup for a few years. I hope he can learn, dial it in and become a solid starter for someone eventually
It was Wojo. Question “Dan one of the ways defenses are judged on their impact is sack totals. People get obsessed with sack totals. How important is sack totals to you on the impact of a defense and does Hutchinson have another level to rise to.”
Thanks, I heard part of the question but not all of it, was driving at the time and audio wasn’t great.
OP updated with the media sessions with Ben Johnson, Scottie Montgomery, Hutch, BroMart, Laporta, and Hooker.
His comments on sacks vs pressures.
But Campbell is more concerned with hurries than sacks.
“Yeah, sacks aren’t that big of a deal, as long as you’re getting pressures,” Campbell said. “And those pressures show up that affect the quarterback negatively. Now, would you rather have sacks? Absolutely, I would rather have sacks. Right? Your loss of yardage, all those things — but the pressures are more to me than — pressure that affects the quarterback — we watched a couple of clips this morning in front of the team. The quarterback’s wanting to step up, he can’t step up, the throw is high, he’s flipping to his right, he can’t get his hips around and he threw a pick. So, these things that end up in negative plays, whether it’s incomplete, it’s turnovers, it’s whatever, I’ll take those all day long.”
With that in mind, here is an interesting tidbit:
The Lions had only 41 sacks in 2023, which was 23rd in the NFL. But they lead the NFL with 74 hurries, according to Fox Sports.
And they should only get better from this point on.
I agree 100% with everything Campbell said. I also think that our secondary is going to be very much improved, which will lead to considerably more sacks.

And hopefully more INT’S. It’s okay if the defense gives up some yards if we are forcing turnovers regularly
Classic Ben Johnson “I love football questions”!! After hitting him with a million about head coaching crap
