Merits of Drafting Will Levis

We should trademark the ā€œGot Mayoā€ Levis T-shirts before someone else does.

So is the Colts war room leaking like sieve? Orā€¦could something else be going on?

Iā€™ll go with the laterā€¦

Random quick take, if I had to guess, the Colts want Richardson and they donā€™t want anybody trading up in front of them with the Cards and cā€“k blocking them. The other thing is that the Colts leaking this signals to any team wanting to trade their QB, ahem Baltimore, that the price needs to come down.

Could definitely be true, but surely other teams wouldnā€™t fall for such an obvious ploy? I think they get much more convoluted than that at this time of year. Itā€™s the whole Princess Bride which wine to drink scenario.

The Colts would most likely select Will Levis if they had the #1 overall pick (IMO).

Just look at the history of the Colts franchise (33 starting QBā€™s in history), and see if you notice a pattern under the Irsay Father-Son ownership.

Colts really love ā€œmayoā€ in their coffee as well.

Do you happen to know if Johnny Unitas put Mayo in his coffee? That would be a clue.

Yeah, Iā€™m not that vested in my takes. Its better just to ignore news this time of year honestly.

I saw something along these lines except it was put as ā€œhe would fit better with the Indy fan baseā€. It seems wild and unbelievable in 2023, but honestly its as good of a guess as anything else.

Dungy and Caldwellā€¦makes my brain all itchy when thinking about the Irsayā€™s as owners. I donā€™t know what to think when looking at 60 years of QBā€™s for the Colts. Jacoby Brissett and Josh Freemanā€¦thatā€™s it.

This is kinda walking the line in Nateā€™s forum, I treaded lightly when making the post above. But, I stand with my initial opinionā€¦Levis would go #1 overall if the Colts held that pick.

I donā€™t see any QBā€™s in this draft being ā€œsure fireā€ franchise QBā€™s. Iā€™d put Stroud at 50% and it gets worse from there.

I wouldnā€™t be surprised if only 2 QBā€™s go before our pick as Levis and AR are so risky.

I donā€™t think any QBs are really sure fire franchise guys, how often have we seen them bust? I mean you got your borderline slam dunks like Trevor, Burrow and Luck, but after that itā€™s a crapshoot, and I donā€™t think anyone in this class is on that level (next year weā€™ll have another guy though). I personally think Young has the best chance of succeeding but thereā€™s definitely a world where he doesnā€™t.

I agree about the 2 QBs falling. I think theyā€™ll both be there at our pick. I think Indy wonā€™t go QB if the guys they like are gone. Ballard wonā€™t force it.

In my eyes Bryce is sure fire. That may sound crazy based off of just how big of an outlier he is. I do worry that he will break down though.

Iā€™d be surprised if he failed for sure but we have to allow for it due to his size. When he plays I think heā€™ll be awesome.

Thatā€™s draft porn for meā€¦

I think if Bryce were 6ā€™-3" people would be having a real conversation about his weaknesses as a player. Being so small has worked in his favor in terms of the general population discussing him. His strengths are highlighted and not much has actually been said about his weaknesses.

It could also be leaked from Levis agent to pump up his perceived value.

Maybe in general draft media thatā€™s true, but any of the in-depth guys (i.e., the ones worth listening to) are all over it.

Tell me what they have said, I am curious. To be fair I will give a snippet of what I saw.

  • The first one is the easiest. From an arm strength standpoint, he can make every throw you would ask of him within the normal structure of the play. He canā€™t fall backwards and use pure arm strength to deliver a firing hot chili pepper 20 yards down field with velocity like Stroud and Richardson can. He might be able to ā€œget it there,ā€ but not to NFL standards. I call this one easy because all he has to do is avoid situations where things like that might be required, like Goffā€¦or even Tom Brady.

  • Thatā€™s where things get tricky in a hurry. Bryce seems to miss quite a few throws that are open within the structure of the play in favor of holding onto the ball and turning everything into a scramble drill. Many of his ā€œOMG that was awesomeā€ scrambling throws were unnecessary.

  • There are times that I am left wondering if he is scrambling because he is having issues seeing thru the throwing lanes to the receiver. There is something about the film that makes it look like he is trying to get deeper into the backfield to see more, or he likes it better when the pass rush is more developed and bigger openings are available out of structure. I have no idea what it is exactly and I am sure there are multiple reasons and each situation is unique.

Thereā€¦I started it.

Ha, well those are three of the main issues and any evaluator with his salt should bring them up. Iā€™ve also heard:

  • Throws off his back foot in the face of perceived pressure.
  • Play style leads to big hits.
  • Overcompensates for lack of ideal arm strength on deep balls, lets them go too early and overthrows his receivers.
  • Unorthodox backpedal, never taken snaps from under center.
  • Often skips the easy play for a chance at a home run.

Others wax poetic about his playmaking which I admit, can oftentimes be exceptional. But as you mentioned can also get him in trouble. The main reason Iā€™m so high on him is his problem-solving ability. What a perfect strength for a guy with size problems. Itā€™s that more than anything else that leads me to believe heā€™ll overcome not only his size issues, but some of his decision-making. You donā€™t often see him making the same mistake twice.

I have to add to his one because some people will come away with the impression that he is just aggressive and wants to push the ball down field more. Thats understandable. Sometimes you get your hand caught in the cookie jar and thatā€™s life. But the way I would change the language of that statement is that he will sometimes turn down the easy throw in favor of running around and throwing a hero ball.

Here is a taste. There is at least 1 guy by anyoneā€™s definition that is open to receive a pass. I see multiple viable options but letā€™s eliminate some. 19 and 7 will cross and get open by any NFL definition in their respective areas. So why TF did he take a sack on this play?
