Bronze must be extremely hard to form into a likeness of somebody. It’s pretty darn rare for me to see a bronze statue that actually looks like the person it’s representing. Heck, even the busts they make for the HOF always look off to me.
But go to a wax museum and some of those replicas look so much like the person it’s freaking freaky. And of course chiseling into granite is most likely pretty hard and yet Mount Rushmore is a pretty darn accurate depiction.
So I don’t know. All I know is almost every single time I see one of these bronze statues my first thought is…that doesn’t look like him at all.

Of the recent HOF inductees the only ones who I know I could identify from the bust were Ed Reed and Junior Seau. The Ed Reed bust was dead easy though because it has his hair and beard perfectly recreated. If you showed me Calvin’s bust with no other context I don’t know if I could tell it was him.
Every time I see this I can’t help but laugh.
I would love to hear the story behind this.
I just read the article. The artist is apparently clueless as to why people think his sculpture is so bad. He said people need to realize that a “sealer” has to be put on the sculpture, to preserve its integrity. The sealer then creates “glossy” spots where real life people are not typically glossy. He said people need to see it in person…since the glossiness is “tricking” our eyes on camera.
WTF? He thinks its the “glossiness” that people are laughing at?

He can scour the shiny stuff off that statue, but it won’t change the fact that it is absolutely not a statue of Dwayne Wade. Did he Google Dwayne Wade for a picture and get the wrong dude?

…if you are googling “Dwayne” you technically ARE searching for the wrong dude. His name is spelled Dwyane. Its so strange.
If I’m the artist there’s no way in hell I put my name on that sculpture. Or I give it the Venus de Milo treatment and cut off the head. Looks like it was sculpted from memory after 7 straight days of doing blow.

Someone told him to go into a darkness retreat to find the inner peace to patiently complete the sculpture.
The artist misunderstood, and literally sculped it in the dark.
