Miami tried to trade for Swift

Oh, Dolphins. Always thirsting after Lions Running Backs.

But if we traded him to Miami we wouldn’t get him running backwards against us in a crucial 3rd and 2 in the NFC championship game.

If he makes it to the NFC game.

True and I doubt Miami will make Super Bowl to play Lions this year.

Very simple, you want Swift, pay the price or keep on walking.

I would feel so much better about trade if we sent Swift to the AFC. I just have a feeling he’s gonna go wild in a contract year playing at home. He’s a Philly guy.

My thought too. He may not go crazy, he may, but in the AFC I dont care.

Yeah, this is my least favorite move of the offseason. Just hate the idea of helping the conference champion - who we’re dreaming of knocking off - in any way shape or form. And I hate the freaking Eagles and their fans. Oh well, time will tell.

On the plus side of the ledger for the Lions is the return. If Antoine Greene becomes a nice player that alone would be worth it. And I think most here believe that the 2025 4th rounder will result in another mid-round Lions steal.

In time this should work in the Lions favor. Swift is basically a one-year rental, if he’s great they’ll have to pay up big to keep him. And there’s a good chance he flames out with injury anyway…

I hate seeing Swift go to Phi. He’s going to thrive there.

I’d much rather he went just about anywhere else

Which version of Swift?

The variance of outcomes with that guy was something else.

It really was an oddity. Like, totally different from one play to the next.
Look like an all pro when he had daylight, or was closing in on the endzone.
Then he would look like a scared rookie if he had to just put his nose down for a three yard gain … turning into a 4 yard loss.
And the string of injuries were just the icing on the cake.

FWIW
Heard on some Lions podcast, that someone did a study on final contract year players ….
Result — no appreciable increase in typical players performance.

The notion is a fallacy

Lions OL is among the best in the league and he couldn’t thrive here for more than a handful of games

I see no reason history won’t repeat itself

Eagles fans will be loving Swift after week 1, maybe week 2 or 3 — then same old Swift frustrates everyone.

Book it

Its definitely not a fallacy. Its backed by stats and its backed by anecdotes of former players talking about their contract year or a teammates contract year. There are a few things that need to be accounted for in the “study.” For one, a guy like Hutch isn’t going to have a “contract year bump” because he’s already playing every year like its a contract year. So players like that smooth out the curve, which can hide what’s really going on with other players.

Who funded that research?

That’s the question we must have an answer to in this day and time before any study’s “findings”.

Most of the times the findings are the fallacy.

I’m sure it was mentioned but I don’t recall

The best version.

PHI OL is one of the best in the NFL.
Swift is in a contract year.
Swift was born and raised in Philly.

I’m expecting those stars to align and for him to have his best season yet.

We’ve seen it happen so often that there’s no chance it’s a fallacy.

As a guy with a degree in statistics. My guess is they used garbage data so they got garbage results.

For example if you plug in every player you will flood the study with data points and you won’t be able to see specific trends.

Let me explain.

Aging vets on their final one year contracts will show a decline in performance.

Mid and late round Rookie contracts won’t show much of a trend since most are developmental players who are getting limited playing time.

But if you use data from underperforming high round draft picks in they’re first big contract year the data is going to be much different looking.

I really liked Swift from the moment he slipped past KC in the draft. But injuries hampered him (not his fault). And his inability to read his blocks seemed to grow more frustrating by the game (totally his fault).

Still, wish no will ill for the kid. It was just time to move on…sigh
