Micah Parsons Character Issues

He is the best defensive player in the draft in my opinion. His highlight reels are football pornography…but I saw an interview with him awhile back that raised an eyebrow. I will look for it and try to post here. I seem to remember thinking to myself that this kid might not be all there.

I’ve been all in on drafting Parsons, but I’m not the one that is going to be conducting his interview. If they think he is a headcase and high risk, then by all means pass. I’m just not letting this story be the deciding factor.

Drawing comparisons is a roll of the dice. For every Maurice Clarett there’s a Larry Fitzgerald (alot of people questioned his maturity level ), for every Charles Rodgers there’s a Warren Sapp. At the end of the day, someone will choose Parsons, and he’s either going to make that person look like a genius or make them look like an idiot. Every year someone comes out of the draft looking like a :skunk:, sometimes it takes a couple of years. This kid could be a field general, or he could be a diva distraction.

If you had the decision, and you honestly say it could go either way, 50/50, would you pull the trigger and take him as a franchise cornerstone in the beginning for where the Lions are at right now going forward, or would you take someone slightly less talented with zero question marks?

That’s a hard question to answer, and I can only hope the team finds out what they need to so that ISN’T a question when they are on the clock.

It is not hard. We need a solid building block.

Watching this guy on film he’s a freak of nature. Those are some long arms and he’s fast. I’d be happy to draft him if his concerns check out.

this defense needs teeth , I’d draft him , when your young? you think you got the world by the balls and your chasing tail and partying-that’s what life is (then) you carry some of that around no matter what you sign up to do…playing football or anything else. when your young you do some pretty dumb chit not an excuse, but I chalk it up to youth-mentality and then, you think everybody wants you and your a badass.

my two cents. maybe he thought “hell man they still want this !” paraphrasing…but you get the picture.

maybe he falls out of first? lands 2nd round…that where I’d draft him…IF he does.

That’s where I’m at. IMO given the odd details of the story I would presume there is some truth to it, but if not then I’m okay taking him. I do think there will be better prospects on the offensive side of the ball available at pick 7 though.

If I were Holmes, there’s very little chance I would draft Parsons. I’d meet him, and ask him
to describe the dick incident, and if he didn’t give the most naturally articulate and compelling response I’ve ever heard to any question in my life, then he’d be off the board entirely. Maybe I’d consider signing as an UDFA, but with a zero tolerance clause in the contract. If it’s true, it’s not a minor character flaw and it sure as hell isn’t immaturity. It’s straight up derangement.

I will leave it to the Lions to decide, based upon their extensive research, whether Parsons is worth the risk.

That being said, others have mentioned Zaven Collins as an intriguing player if the Lions trade down. If the Lions are going to play a 3-4, he’d fit the bill at OLB. And, quite frankly, his overall production was far better than the more highly touted Kwity Paye.

Then again… sometimes not…

Everybody does stupid shit when they’re young, that’s what being young is for. Not everybody gets turned into a multimillionaire TV star and the public face of a billion-dollar company overnight as a young 20-something. Which is a good thing, because not every 20-something can handle that.

I don’t know enough to have an opinion on Parsons character, and reading what’s out there hasn’t helped shed much light on it. Fortunately it’s not my call, I’ll trust our draft evaluators until they prove they shouldn’t be trusted.

Well, most of us wanted Reuben Foster… so technically…

I posted this in another thread but I’ll drop it here too.

For me the Parsons stories are weak because they come from the same kid. It all came out in a hazing lawsuit and Parsons wasn’t even in the original complaint. The original complaint was against the university, coach James Franklin and former teammate Damion Barber.

When the original complaint was tossed out by the judge the revision added stories about Micah Parsons, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Jesse Luketa. Ask yourself why he left these stories out the first time?

Clearly this Humphries kid took exception to what the school classified as locker room horseplay. He didn’t get a long with his team mates and the kid admits to pulling a knife on Parsons.

That kid sued the school too. There’s an important aspect to this story. It’s in the report that all of this came out in.

The court has twice rejected Mr. Humphries’ complaints, and despite his continued revisions

So the court rejected his complaints twice and the kid changed his story multiple times. This should give you an indication of the type of kid were dealing with here.

If the kid hadn’t added the big names to his claims no one in the media would have taken notice. The kid didn’t add these stories until after he wasn’t getting the results he had hoped for.

He’s not credible … the court knows he’s not credible… that’s why they threw his case out.

So why should we believe anything this kid says? … not only that… I really don’t think his claims against Parson are all that telling to be honest.

So do you really want to pass on the best defensive player in the draft because of here-say? … especially here-say from a kid who keep changing his story and who clearly has an agenda?

I don’t … I wouldn’t hesitate to take Parsons based off what we know.

Obviously I’d hope the Lions would look into his background but I suspect the coaches are going to take Parsons side like they have already.

I wanted no part of Foster – would have drafted Peppers, who has also been unspectacular, so…

Davis excelled at WLB at Florida. The Lions have attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to turn him into a MLB. It will be interesting to see if the current coaching staff attempts to correct that mistake.

Not me. Too many pre-draft red flags. But then again, I didn’t want Jarrad Davis at No. 21 overall either.

I actually didn’t mind the Davis pick. I think you are right that we have mis-used him. What gives me pause is that there have been three different DC’s who have done that. While its obvious to many of us, why can’t others see that he just is not good at shedding blockers, and plays better in space (although his reads are bad too!). Since MCDC has already mentioned him, I still hold out some hope that he’s a very late bloomer.

Having relocated to the Delaware Valley from New York, I listen to WIP sportstalk out of Philly. A cohost is former NFL FB Jon Ritchie, who relayed an account of Micah Parson’s attitude. Ritchie is a running backs coach for a Pa. camp of high schoolers being recruited for college. During drills, Parsons pulled off his defensive jerseys and got into line for running back drills. Ritchie asked him what he was doing. Parsons responded he was going to take reps. The running backs COACH then told him to put that jersey back on and return to other side of ball.
Ritchie was quite aware, even at that age, of Parson’s attitude issues. He has also
heard from his contacts at Penn State.
I can remember him stating this young MAN was all about his “brand” and doubted his behavior would improve with $$$ in his pocket.
This was a few weeks ago.
