Micah Parsons Character Issues

Given all this kids issues can we grab a kid in the second round and aggressively pursue Christian Harris from Bama next year?

Well, I’ll say this. I see the kids talent. I see his explosion. But I rarely ever find myself mocking him to us. Part of it is the fear of off field. But mainly it’s because I find other guys to do what Parsons would be tasked to do in our new scheme. I go with longer Edge guys in the mold of Leonard Floyd to pair with J Okwara at OLB. I see Rousseau, Phillips, J Smith, E Smith, Tryon, then a couple other guys that aren’t quite as tall, like Roche, but have that explosion off the edge. Then we have Collins for another year. He is fine at either ILB position, but if we put him at SILB, it gives us a little more flexibility as we could get a 230ish pound coverbacker at the WILB spot.

We can do that, and not worry about putting a 7OA pick into a guy that may Jimmy Dean Frank Ragnow as a prank and get knocked tfo…

I am not sure why you would hesitate to put Parsons on the edge. He has alot of experience there.

The thing is that it’s Humphries word against many others and he’s changed the story multiple times.

Penn state police issued this statement.

“based on extensive interviews, we did not learn of any information that would substantiate the claims” and that No claims of hazing were substantiated against anyone. It also said the the Centre County district attorney declined to pursue charges after reviewing a Penn State police investigation.

Mind you he told this story about Parsons as the reason for why he pulled a knife on Parsons as his defense for doing it. Which I believe got him kicked off the team.

His case was tossed out of Civil court, then tossed out of Court of Appeals and now is in Federal court.

So far two judges and a DA have ruled Humphries unreliable. So now he is taking it to federal court of appeals. With no witnesses to back up in his story. It is his word against many others.

Lastly and the most importantly (in terms of Parsons guilt anyway) is that the civil suit names the university, football coach James Franklin, and defensive tackle Damion Barber as the defendants.

Parsons name is not on the suit …Why do you think that is?

The suit filed claims that DE Damion Barber “engaged in a civil conspiracy” with three other Nittany Lions – linebackers Micah Parsons, Jesse Luketa and end Yetur Gross-Matos – “to haze, harass, assault, batter, and retaliate against" him. Barbber is the only player listed as a defendant in the suit, however.

Personally I think it’s a money grab attempt.

The only real evidence they have on their side is former PSU team physician Dr. Scott Lynch, alleging that Franklin improperly attempted to influence the physician’s decisions on injured athletes and applied pressure to allow them to play.

They are hanging their hat on this Doctors claims to support the following claim.

the head coach Franklin “acted negligently, carelessly, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly and breached the duty of care owed to the plaintiff [by] failing to take substantive action to protect the plaintiff from suffering the prohibited conduct of harassment and hazing.”

The more I learn about this case the more I think this kid has embellished his story and that it’s really just a money grab.

I am curious… what are all these issues?

The aforementioned issues regarding maturity, potentially assaulting teammates, the “Sandusky Incident” … those were the issues I was referring to.

There are no issues with his physical ability whatsoever, but you don’t want to spend a high draft pick if there’s a possibility that he could Rueben Foster himself out of the league.

Charlie Campbell is pretty tied in with league sources (though Walter football sucks).

And I’m not posting this because I believe it. I have no idea what to believe and likely never will. I’m posting it for everyone who’s decided that whatever Parsons did “isn’t that bad”. Well, how can you know that?

I think that it’s a given that we as fans will never have all the info on Parsons or access to his interviews. These reports might be legit or they might be smoke screens. We have to trust our staff to do their homework.
From a talent standpoint, I wouldn’t blink at taking him at 7.

Eh, I’ll take it in an LB. Were it a QB, I’d have some concerns but I don’t mind some attitude on my defense.

I thought the same thing… then Rueben Foster happened .

As I’ve pointed out - all these accusations came from one guy who was kicked off the team for pulling a knife on Parsons. He has one story and everyone else has another. The police investigated his claims and found no evidence to support them.

He’s had his case tossed out of two court rooms now because he keeps changing his story and has been found to be unreliable.

For me —- what I don’t get is why so many people on this board are putting so much stocked into what this one mans claims are.

Bucky Brooks said

“some of his inconsistencies are due to his immaturity”

Then said this about him.

"Parsons might emerge as the best defensive player in the draft when it's all said and done," Brooks wrote. "He is a freak athlete with explosive strength, power and speed. As an A+ blitz specialist with a nasty disposition,

So again I question why posters on this board give such weight to the immaturity comment and not the rest of what he said?

Lots of successful players have been labeled immature like Justin Herbert, and Jadevon Clowney.

But let’s be honest. Bucky Brooks didn’t really call Parson immature he just constributed his inconsistency to his immaturity. (His age)

I brought up a quote in a Justin Fields thread a long while back where Dane Brugler contributed Justin Fields inconsistencies to his immaturity as well. But no one cared and you never hear anyone bring it up on this board as a red flag for Fields. The funny thing is the one guy on this board who seems to bring up Parsons immaturity the most is the same guy who defended Bruglers comment on Justin Fields immaturities. Double standards I guess.

I get being concerned but the level of concern you guys lay on Parsons seems odd to me.

No one in the legal system believes Humphries story on Parsons but the people on this board put a lot of stock in it.

Like I said before. If the team digs into his back ground and comes out feeling good about it then I want them to take him. I think these stories cause teams to dig and do their homework on him. Which is a good thing in my book. If they find some real concerns there then I’m hoping we take a WR or trade down. Smith is my second favorite player next to Parsons.

I would, just highlighting that we have a lot of options who will cost less and maybe give even more on the rush side (certainly less on the coverage side) than you get with Parsons who can go both really well. If we do draft Parsons, I put him in Leonard Floyds role. For us likely opposite J Okwara as our other OLB. Parsons could also be a nickle and rush or cover, so there is value there.

The concern is that there is more out there that we haven’t heard that’s scaring teams off. The fact that we keep hearing that multiple teams have major character concerns about him suggests the full story is not out there yet.

If it really were just one or two incidents of immaturity and one allegation from an unreliable accuser, I have a hard time believing there would be so much smoke out there about him. Maybe it’s all bullshit but wow, there seem to be a lot of teams buying into it.

Air, I simply don’t have faith in the reasons you lay out and think other people feel the same. It’s a 1 sided narrative that is unknown although you are pushing certain results as proof something didn’t happen.

Let’s clarify a few things:

  • There are likely only 2 people + very small number of possible witness(es) who know the truth about the sexual assault. The judge doesn’t know or have ESP. We don’t know the motives or character of any potential witness. It really is 1 persons word against another.

  • Campus police aren’t known for their expertise to properly investigate allegations involving sports stars. Never mind Penn State in an instance the could create another lawsuit related to sex and their football team.

  • Victims of sexual assault generally do not immediately report their case. It’s a complicated thing wrap one’s head around and deal with. Often victims know something fucked up happened but aren’t sure it was a crime. They are always embarrassed, often afraid of being further traumatized and shamed by coming forward. Through having people who know nothing about the truth criticize them and try to invalidate one of the worst, most impactful moments of their life for some other reason. Be it a defense attorney, defendants family member or outside party. The idea that if there’s a crime these victims would immediately come forward to seek justice is not based in reality. History agrees.

  • Sexual assault cases are notoriously difficult to get a conviction on. Nothing substantive can be garnered from the DA not pressing charges. Again, history agrees. I can attest as a family member was raped, went to the hospital through rape kit procedure etc. They spoke to the DA and decided to move on with their life instead of fight an uphill retraumatizing battle that was statistically unlikely to result in conviction even with the evidence they had. Do you believe that since the DA didn’t file charges the rape did not occur? Btw, it was the king of mindfucks. If you research trauma victims you’ll learn it’s common to have memory lapses because the body shuts down into survival mode and allocates resources towards areas of the brain and body essential to that. Depleting them in other areas such as the hippocampus.

You are presenting evidence that leads us to a conclusion representing only 1 side of the coin. Some of what I typed above represents the other side of the coin. More has been presented by other in this thread. Both sides of the coin exist. I just don’t understand why you believe so strongly that Parsons is innocent based on what you’ve laid out.

The nice thing about Parsons is he can play every LBer position but I like him at MLB where his range, speed and coverage skills would be elite.

I’ve found over the years that you can’t believe what these beat writers say in regards to teams thoughts on prospects predraft. We’ve seen them be wrong both ways so many times. I really doubt teams are letting it known just how they really feel about a guy. The way a lot of these stories come out is a media guy like Rappaport calls a team beat writer like Tim Twentyman and says hey who you like or don’t like for the Lions at QB. Then Twentyman say’s man I don’t know about this Justin Herbert guy… I hear he’s immature. But I do like that Dwayne Haskins guy for the Lions. Then story comes out. Several teams have Haskins over Herbert. Many have concerns about Herberts immaturity.

However… I’m sure teams are concerned about the stories they’re hearing about Parsons. Most teams have yet to have an interview with him and have yet to hear his side of the stories. Most heavy background checks aren’t done until just before the draft. So it’s early in the process. It’s usually after the team meetings and combine that teams really dig in on players backgrounds.

Actually it’s his word against multiple other peoples word. This is not a situation of his word against another. It’s a situation of his word against 4 others with whiteness present. No one collaborated his claims.

The story told is he pulled the knife on Parsons in front of a group of people. After It was reported that he pulled a knife. He said the reason he pulled the knife was because Parsons choked him and later changed the story, adding several other stories in. He admitted to pulling the knife.

Then Penn state police did an extensive investigation and they couldn’t find one person to collaborate any of his stories. Not one … none of these incidents happened in private. There are plenty of people claiming his stories are false. Let’s not forget he keeps changing his story.

The DA also did a Title IX investigation into sexual assault allegations in the Penn State locker room and chose not to prosecute anyone. They found no evidence of the crime and they found Humphries to be unreliable. This is a federal investigation, it’s extensive and it’s not taken lightly.

This isn’t a sexual assault case. That accusation was tossed out after an extensive federal investigation was completed.

This is a civil suit that’s been tossed out of two court rooms already. Parsons is not on trail and Humphries is not making a claim that he was sexually assaulted by Parsons or anyone else. Parsons is not a defendant in the case.

No where does it list sexual assault in his suit against Damion Barber, the school or the coach. Those are the only defendants in the case. The civil suit is for harassment, hazing and physical assault by Damion Barber.

Why do you think Parsons isn’t in the suit?

Let’s make this clear… Parsons is not on trial. no accusations have been made against him in the current civil suit.

I love the idea of drafting Parsons and view him as a more versatile, faster Khalil Mack. If you could combine Khalil Mack and Devin White the result would be Micah Parsons. He can play on the line, off ball, blitz and cover. A 6’ 3", 245# terror. Take him at 7 and be happy, unless you could trade with Carolina drop to 8, get an additional 3rd and take Parsons. He is a knee cap biter, a hunk taker and would give our defense or team an identity moreso than any other player you could take at 7 outside of a QB. Might just be the most impactful player, outside of a QB, in this draft.

If everything you say is true then my crow is thawing for the grill.

So to confirm, the former teammate never alleged Parsons put his dick on his face?? That was a rumor created through the pipeline? This just got weird…er

That’s where the whole thing doesn’t make sense to me. A former football player making a story about a teammate slapping him in the face with his genitals (sexual assault) and dealing with that publicity for the rest of his life.

This is the main crux that has concerned me with Parsons thus far.

And I’m now thoroughly confused. Interested to see what’s next.
