Michigan lands a big fish, maybe

True, but I don’t think this is the end of the matter with regards to transfer rules.

The 2008 Lions would have lost to Hamilton for sure

At some point this will get negotiated through the collective bargaining process. Contracts, caps, organized offseason etc.

The key to landing the big fish is focus and grip strength…

I heard about this yesterday, and I should care…but I don’t.

I really don’t want to root for an entirely different team next year.

Do you think this will include how much a player can make outside of any team salary for his Name.Image, LIkeness?

I like NIL, because for football instead of just the SEC, Clemson, and OSU paying players you have roughly 20-30 teams paying. Michigan which used to operate with peanuts now is actually using the money cannon.

I think MSU fans will come over to the dark side on NIL once their University gets on board with using the money cannon they’re capable of

I think it will be similar to the NFL model in time. Can Rocket Mortgage offer a Lions player 20 mil on the side to sign for a discounted contract with the Lions? That’s what the conferences need to clean up, and I think they are well within the law to do so. Now if Nike wants to pay Bryce Underwood to cut a commercial? That’s between the two parties, and I don’t think it would be legal to stop that.

Perfectly said. I’ve had a hard time getting behind college sports for a long time and a lot of why has been explained in your post.

The DOJ and “several states” clearly don’t understand the importance of winning SEC championships.

To me, the real problem isn’t the kids getting paid, or the unlimited transfer ability these kids have now.

The problem is/was the complete lack of action by the NCAA to address any of these problems before the courts had to get involved.

I agree with the first part, but not the second. The constant “offseason” is not good for the sport or the athletes. They aren’t being developed like they once were, and those with no shot of making the NFL decrease their chances of graduating every time they transfer. Not to mention it is literally burning these coaches out.

There has to be change, but the NCAA leadership has been nonexistent. It will take the conferences working this out, and that will take some time. There are some great former coaches out there who would be great at trying to hammer this out.

I thought only 1st round picks got guaranteed contracts?

Well in a way yes. But most 2nd round picks go on two way contracts. And play nba g leauge

And that’s the problem, unless you are guaranteed to be a 1st round pick, why enter the draft and play in the G-league for 50k a year when you can stay in school and make 500k to 5 million a season?

I mean, it’s great for college basketball but not so great for the NBA.

To my knowledge, in the NBA, first round picks have the same “rookie” deals we have in the NFL, where the compensation is determined by your draft slot. Second round picks still get to negotiate their deals with the teams after they get drafted.
