Michigan lands a big fish, maybe

NBA or Ann Arbor

Man Nil sure is good thing in AA. Izzo needs to change his ways. I mean even most 2nd round picks get a guarantee contact in the nba even if its a two way contract

Overall I agree that changes need to be made to the whole transfer/NIL thing going on right now.
Yet, at the same point you can’t stick your head in the sand during this time in the sport. I don’t know enough to say that is what Izzo is or isn’t doing.

Until those changes are made this is the current model.

Izzo isnt doing shit. Not rumored for any one or talked to anyone. He made his whole thing about transfer portal speach, so he is stuck with im not playing that game. I do believe Holloman will back , and Richardson enters the draft, but where is the scoring going to come from. Two years from now Izzo will have one big and one pg.

Listen I am done with giving 2 shits about college sports until they get this figured out.

I will watch games and go to my MSU football games. But it has truly ruined one of my favorite parts of the game. Which is watching the kid grind away for 4 years and get the start in year 5 after putting in all that work.

Both MSU and UM has a long list of those dudes. I mean UM lived off the walk on that became a starter or key sub his 5th year on the Oline.

I think that is gone for the most part. Teams will just process kids in and out of the program.

It will be interesting how they get this under control. But until then it is hard to get to emotionally involved.

And as far as Izzo. So we mock him for being stuck in the 1950s or respect him for trying to honor his commitment to the kids he recruited? And same applies to UM. Do we mock them for being carpetbaggers or respect them for maximizing the new rules and building the roster with all tools available.

I do not like how so many kids are getting screwed over. So many either get jumped over by transfers but the real crime are the ones who think they can transfer who lose the scholly and never find a new college. This is a bad deal for anyone except the top 10% of the players

I agree. Izzo is the last man standing, essentially. He did it the right way and got to the Elite 8, but ran into an Auburn team with an average starting 5 age of like 25. It’s patently absurd.

This is the death of college sports. Universities are now serving as minor league vessels. It could be argued that was always the case, and we have transparency now, but to me it’s entirely ruined the sport.

Older than the Wizards and Hawks starting lineup age lol

And the joy of recruiting is dead as well. Both msu and uofm had one guy on their roster that was a sr that stuck around for all 4 years. How can you get excited to keep a top recruit if they just leave in a year or two? Go back to you have to sit a year and this shit goes away in a heartbeat. AA has 3 incoming portals. EL has zero. Indiana has 2 kids on the roster, and one incoming fr.

Yep.

Here’s the problem: it just might be reality. For years, colleges were raking in millions/billions off of these kids, giving them the illusion of a helpful education, or worse, telling them they’d be a springboard to the pros when that was more than a white lie. So, yeah, perhaps it was the case that the traditional stuff we loved took advantage of those kids—and now they’re rightfully getting what they’re owed.

Doesn’t mean I have to like it.

I’m not sure it is the death of college sports, for some it absolutely will be, others not so much. The younger generation will grow up with this model and all the other changes we’ve seen.

I do think this model is much more in focus with CBB than CFB as there are fewer players on th eroster.

Pay the kids if you want, but needs to be a contract. Its the minor leauge of sports. Also now make them pay for school. But the one year sit think makes the most sense. Wont get paid, till they actually pay.

“illusion of a helpful education”

I understand this wording and don’t totally disagree, yet, that education was in front of them, for the taking. Many many players did take advantage so I don’t 100% agree either.

There has been some talk of this, a contract, where similar to the coaches having to pay the buyout in their contract if they leave for another job the player would have too as well.

Changes, uniformity across all schools, needs to happen. However, I’m not certain all the leagues will agree and that is the next battleground, or one of them.

It is the death of college sports. Right now its good to be AA, but not so much for other schools. How can one maintain interest in a player if he just leaves the next year. Donaldson is on his 3rd team. Yale basketball had wolf , they probably go further if he was on that team. Remember march madness had a Cinderella story those days are over, because the rich can just buy those players.

Most of the college sports teams could drop out of the big leagues and start lower tier leagues. It’s like Canadian sports, they can’t draw anyone to the CFL or their other leagues because they aren’t competitive on money. When the Hamilton Tiger-Cats play the Detroit Lions it usually doesn’t end well. Does that mean everyone on the Lions is going to take a massive pay cut? Good luck with that.

AI Overview
No, the NCAA cannot stop players from transferring; a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice and several states permanently bars the organization from restricting athletes’ transfer eligibility, allowing unlimited transfers without penalty, as long as they meet academic requirements [4, 6, 7].

There are legal ramifications for restricting the players from transferring or earning monies based on their Name, Image, Likeness.

NIL is really geared towards glamour boys who can sell their name, image, and likeness. You could be an all-world 300 lb guard who is ugly and you don’t make crap of NIL. More changes are coming but the top players will be making more money not less.

My comments with regards to death of the sport had nothing to do with UM landing transfers.
l’m just not sure that it will be the death of the sport.
