I cannot stand this model.
My team is the University of Arizona. We might be able to keep good basketball players but when it comes to football if we have a player or a coach who has one good season theyâre gone the next season.
Itâs really difficult to get emotionally invested in players / coaches if you know that theyâll be one and done.
I agres its broken system. You got a few teams that wont recruit anyone HS
Itâs unfortunate that players wonât fight for their playing time on their team. Instead they just go to another team without competition and then if thereâs competition the following year, they just transfer againâŚor find a team that will pay them more. Phat phat, tre donaldson, and Holloman for MSU are perfect examples.
It really means that when you lose the recruiting battle for HS player you donât stop recruiting him. Especially if the kid is a recruit for one of the power conferences and gets little to no playing time in his first year. Or has tougher competition come in his second year.
Opposing schools, 2nd place finisher in initial recruiting battle, now have a very specific target(school) to recruit against and a very focused sales pitch on why playing time with them will be different.
Then mention NIL and wellâŚ
Whole new world and while Iâm happy to see the kids being paid the transfer process needs to be tweaked.
Holloman got minutes though. I think he wanted to start and not play off ball, but its a mix between money and what you said
Supposedly MSU is getting a portal commit in the next day or two.
This is true, but I would broaden it to young athletes arenât learning to deal with adversity any more. Itâs one of the greatest lessons learned in life. It builds character, toughens you up and keeps you grounded through the highs.
There needs to be rules on the portal. Contracts?
Read something that 8 teams have 10 plus million roster already.
I would be floored if Yaxel ever plays for Michigan. Heâs going in Round 1 and after working out for teams, that will become even more obvious.
It has nothing to do with money⌠Getting 3 sociology college credits without ever attending a single classâŚLife changing stuff
