Wondering if any of you are steelhead folks. I did ok in the fall but if anyone here has some tips on spring id love to chat
I fish for steelhead but I’m in Erie Pa. I prefer fishing off shore in the fall just casting spoons. In the spring in the creeks I just catch them like any other trout. The best tip would be stay out of the water where you plan to fish. If other guys are walking in with their waders on find a different hole.
Where did you go and what did you use?
I used to go years ago with my buddy to the Big Manistee but i probably haven’t gone in 15 years.
Steelhead fishing has been pretty productive receently on the left coast, with the Muskegon and White, also good number of fish caught in the Newaygo area.
I’ve been all over west mi. 6th street, rogue, au sable, manistee.
I have only done it with a fly rod bc I like the pain.
I just haven’t done it much in spring and want to get out here asap and give it a go
6th street is nuts, I’d never wade that.
I know they get them in the Kzoo River as well.
The Muskegon or Rogue would probably be your best bet but I don’t know if flies work on the Muskegon as well as the Rogue.
I only do 6th st bc I work a mile away and can go in mornings during week then go to work. I would never got on a weekend
You’re a better man than me. One slip and you fill your waders up and taking a ride downstream.
I’d fish it in a jet drive but that’s about it.
What’s the over/under on forever chemicals in parts per million? ![]()

I’ve been fishing steelhead since the 80s. I was a guide on the Manistee little Manistee, Pere Marquette and Betsy Rivers when I was younger.
I’ve fished steelhead all over the state, country and in Canada.
Steelhead fishing has changed a lot over the years with many of the young anglers snagging, but I still prefer to use the same methods I used in the 80s.
If you’re interested in going old school and still be productive, I’d be willing to help you out
