Monroe Freeling on going to the Lions

We’ve had really bad luck as a team here though

Last I heard his back wasn’t that serious but it will require some clean up surgery at some point.

But they said the same thing about Levi to.

I’ve heard the same but every time we hear something like that, shit goes wrong.

Anybody but Proctor

Freeling would be my ideal pick long term. Hope it happens.

Hate seeing Laporta on the same list as Paschal,Levi, Vatai

I think Miller is flying under the radar. Perfect RT, which Dan has made clear he’d rather add over a LT, multi year starter in a big conference (which Brad will love), team captain, tough as nails, gritty, and ready to contribute right away. I think he’s the ideal fit for Detroit.

I think we’ve shown with guys like Jack Campbell - if a guy is the right fit we’ll take him a few picks before the media says we should. We just want our guy.

I don’t think he’s been flying under the radar at all, he’s been the consensus in here for a month+ at this point. He was one of the first guys posted that we all knew the FO would love.

But the tape isn’t pristine, there are more than a few experts with loooooow grades on him (Bryan Broaddus, former player and scout, doesn’t even have him in his top 100). I don’t agree with them (I’ve got him 20th overall personally), but I’ve certain been wrong before.

In what way? Do you mean with the pundit class as a draft pick in general? With the pundit class for a Lions first round pick? Or do you mean on the board? Bc I feel like he’s been the most talked about here over the last few weeks.

I never care how many times I’m wrong on a player eval because I was right on Broderic Martin.

So, meeting that low floor is the ceiling for you?

It has to be because I don’t care enough anymore to do in-depth draft evals anymore. It really doesn’t matter to me. I get less enjoyment watching film and wondering why the Lions drafted someone when I think the tape is poor rather than just hoping the picks turn out good. I don’t need to be in constant battle with Brad Holmes. It seems exhausting.

Brodric left some scar tissue behind.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers actually wrote Scar Tissue (1999) about Bro Mart.

Pros: Good football player

Cons: Weak mullet game that might be unfixable

This. Sorry I wasn’t more clear in my post - we need a RT and this guy is a posterchild for the current Lions regime - but I rarely see Miller mocked to the Lions. It feels weird.

I understood in the earlier years the media didn’t really understand the Lions have a “type,” and believe in that type. But at this point even the casual NFL observer has to understand the kind of player we like to go after.

I think in the vast majority of cases most media evaluators only do mocks begrudgingly because it’s what the people want, but imo you can generally hear their lack of excitement while doing them. They rely on the sims for team needs and for the most, don’t pay any attention to FO tendencies. All they care about is engagement anyway, and in the majority of cases getting it wrong drives that anyway. I just don’t think they put a lot of thought into until we reach this area of the off-season.

Gotcha. Yeah, you are probably right about that. Everything is so Proctor centric.
