granted, I’m not as well versed in some of this stuff as a lot of you, but maaaann… I’ve always felt like Vikings have had pretty decent rosters, with shitty coaching.
sounds…vaguely familiar…yet …I can’t remember OoooooOOOooh yeah that one QB that quit us…who was that? had a pretzel throwing Blonde wife, kind of lippy that one…
I was never very impressed with high passing yards based on high passing attempts. I think this was part of my disconnect with the pro-Stafford crowd early in his career.
Because that kind of thing was always held against Lions QBs of the past….I have seen it with Charlie Batch, Joey Harrington and then Stafford. So Stafford actually put up the numbers, lead the Lions to the playoffs and you still have the same complaints without realizing what the constant problem was
That’s the big advantage to having a pocket passer type of QB. The more mobile QB’s tend to get hurt a lot more.
This list shows the advantages of the pocket passer.
Everyone wants a mobile QB…except me it seems. I keep preaching that Mobile QB’s have more disadvantages than advantages. I personally think it’s harder to win it all with a more mobile QB and the stats support this theory.
There’s a reason pocket passers win more championships and mobile QB’s sell more tickets.
Brady, Carr, Goff, Rogers and Stafford are actually good at handling pressure because they are good at getting rid of the ball quickly. A fast release is key.
That’s where Cousins and Ryan struggle as pressure mounts. They’re not quick enough at getting rid of it. That’s not an easy thing to teach either. Most pocket passers are better at it than mobile passers. They have to develop that skill to succeed while mobile passers first instinct is to run.
A pocket passer with a slow release needs far better blocking and a stout run game to succeed.
I disagree because Brees was one of the best at getting rid of the ball quickly. However Brees needed stellar Interior OL play to succeed. That’s why the Saints invested so heavily at OG. I do think Cousins would have done well on the Saints teams but not as well as Brees mainly due to release times.
But I’d love to see what Cousins could do with stout OL play.
Two things happened. 1. Teams figured out how to beat the double A-Gap defense and he didn’t have an answer. 2. His LBer play diminished. The key to his defenses success was to have LBers who could cover and fill the A-gap quickly.
As injuries mounted to his LBers and teams got better at picking up the A gap blitz his defense took a nose dive.
In 2018, 2019 & 2020 the Saints lost home playoff games. Three consecutive seasons in a place that is deemed as almost impossible for visitors to win. The Saints lost the home playoff games because of Drew Brees. Brees’ arm was fatigue, lethargic and just plain dead. He could not execute the passing game as well as he did in the regular season because he didn’t have it in the arm by that point of the season. The Saints will normally roll up 30+ points in a home playoff game. But they could only muster 23,20 &20. They were held to two TDs in each game. Brees normally can generate much more than two TDs in a home playoff game but he wasn’t the regular season Brees that we all know and love!
