I was watching a game yesterday, and one of the announcers(maybe Romo?) said it’s neck and neck and they think Allen will get it because Lamar already has some, and Allen doesn’t. Seems like an odd line of thinking, and now I want to hear if that’s a thing when voting
Even across sports…for example the NBA has done this as well. Every year it could’ve been Jordan or Lebron but they sprinkled some other guys in there occassionally
Lamar would get my vote. He’s been even more amazing than Allen and his team’s won plenty. He shouldn’t be penalized for having been MVP before or because Allen hasn’t.
And I’m a bit annoyed by the WAAAAY premature Allen’s-running-away-w/it narrative we’ve heard for the least month. I admit that might be factoring into my judgment a bit.
I feel like Josh has done more with less. You take Lamar off the Ravens and they would still have an Identity with Henry. It’s a very close race, but I think I would give the edge to Allen based off their situations.
Lamar is the most dominating player in the NFL at least offensively. I used to say this about Cam Newton also (Lamar is better…than Cam but similar in my mind). But Lamar is not the best QB in the league. And he does not know how to win like Burrow or Mahomes for example.
So where does that Leave Allen? I had always put him in the gun slinger pile where when on he is unstoppable but he many never win a SB because he can not keep it together against good teams for 4 games straight. And then he had this season where is looks like he has finally figured out that mistakes hurt more than making crazy plays helps. His decision making this year has gone up 10 fold IMO from all previous seasons.
For me I think you have to pick Lamar those numbers are just too good. And if the Bills had gotten the 1 seed maybe I go with Allen. But I am not sure while the more wins are nice they have not made much of a difference.
I think that’s the result of Henry. Defenses are terrified of Henry and Lamar’s legs. Play action is stealing candy from a baby. Guys wide ass open all over the field. That’s what happens when you rush for 3000 yards.
Ravens rushing yards 2969, averaging 5.7 yards per carry
Ravens opponents rushing yards 1305, 3.6 yards per carry
Legit dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides.
If I had to pick one of these 2 for the Lions I would pick Allen all day. Well if we are talking trading Goff there is only 2 I would 100% endorse. Burrow and Mahomes. I think those 2 are just light years better than anyone else in the league. And that is not to say Goff is not lights out. Goff might be the best guy in the NFL after Burrow at reading defenses pre-snap and post snap. I still think Mahomes relies more on his off script actions to get himself out of hot water.
I do love watching Lamar play. He is such a weapon. And that is kind of the issue. HE is the weapon. And he needs to be the launch coordinator and commander.
We can agree to disagree. No way am I going to think a QB or any position player should win the MVP when their team goes .500. Yea he has a lot of passing yards and TDs—because the defense was so bad. We used to call Matt Stafford Stat Padford. In my eyes, same holds true for Burrow.
You put the lions offense in the same situations as the bengals offense has been in and their stats would be significantly better. Burrow has been behind more often than not and forced to pass and pass downfield more often. Lions have blown several people out and also use their run game a ton, especially in the red zone.
One of the few games Goff had to come from behind was Buffalo and he almost had 500 yards and he had 5 TDs.
