My first Lions Game

Hi Guys,

Long time Lions forum lurker - and huge Detroit Lions fan from the UK.

As a birthday gift, I have been treated to my first visit to Ford Field when we host the Panthers on 8th October - And I cant wait!

With this in mind, I was just after some recommendations on where to go, best area for hotels etc. I’ll be in the area from the Saturday to Monday so I have some time to look around a little bit and enjoy a few beers etc.

Any advice is welcome

Welcome to the board. I’m going to my second game at Ford field (first was 12 years ago), so will be watching the responses with you.

For BB!Q, another original Detroit experience close to Ford Field:

For more general Italian (the lasagna and salad was always great):

Nice, welcome.

For ease of access to the stadium and its a decent hotel.
Greek town casino and hotel is a great option. Might be a bit pricy for game day. But you wont have to worry about parking or getting a Uber/Lift/Taxi

Agree, stay downtown. Greektown is a great home base. Pegasus or Parthenon greek restaurant there cant miss. Hockeytown is a great crowded pregame hang, and Eastern Market is The tailgate place.

Lafayette, Amercian or National Coney is a must.

Really anywhere in Dearborn youll find 40+ great Syrian/Lebanese places. Garlic sauce w the puffy bread is a must.

There’s a great Italian recommendation above, I would add Andiamo.

Slows BBQ is located in an area called Corktown which is a good bar/restaurant hangout. Hipstery but good.

And you MUST have a Coney Dog at some point on your visit.

Thx DBend. Looks great but yes - expensive. Just checked - its $580 per night. Has anyone tried the Trumbull and Porter hotel? (less than half the price).

Note: you need to book a tour ahead of time if you’re interested…

some hotels don’t have parking. any advice on game day parking?

The Inn on Ferry Street. Unique, plus they’ll shuttle you back & forth to Ford Field. Detroit Institute of Arts is right around the corner.

I’ve never stayed that far away from the stadium. I’ve always stayed within the freeway’s that surround that area of downtown. I’ve stayed at Greek Town, MGM, Days Inn, Atheneum . . . they were all fine. I’m showing $580 total for the two nights at Greek Town right now . . . $248/night plus tax or $446 for two nights at Trubmall and Porter. $134 difference? I’m staying at Greek Town, much closer, won’t need an uber to get to and from and I feel pretty safe around Greek Town at night. Just my two cents.

Whenever I go to a game, I always look at Greek Town Hotel first. . . very close to stadium, free parking, easy walk, a lot of food nearby, plus they are pretty accommodating with accepting donations at the table games.

Oh you’re going to want to take more time if you can there are so many hidden gems in Detroit. The Ford Museum itself will take you half a day. Food wise you want to try Detroit Pizza. If you like middle eastern food, Warren Avenue in Dearborn is the best you can get outside of being in the actual middle east.
