QB - Jared Goff has been over hyped by fans, and media. The beat writers praise him to no end which is surprising. Despite what the stats might lead you to believe, he throws an ugly ball, a lot of wobblers, throws late, is too safe, and inaccurate. He struggles with the long ball. He struggles to connect with the shiny toys like Jamo, and Gibbs. His best plays are those safe plays to St Brown, and LaPorta. He struggles when his first read isn’t there, and when things go wrong. He plays really well when things go right. Protection, and guys getting open. He has two ugly pick 6’s, and thats why they lost to Seattle. I feel like I’m the only person who is honest about Goff. GRADE - C+ (I think he’s played well, and this is a fine grade, but I didn’t give him an A+++++ so everyone will hate me)
RB’s - DMont has been amazing in every way especially his toughness. Gibbs is showing his speed, and elusiveness, but he is surprisingly good in-between the tackles. He runs hard with power, and technique. Goff needs to do better with Gibbs in the passing game. GRADE - A+
WR’s - Can you handle the truth? Jamo is a bad WR. I don’t care about his injury, and suspension, or lack of training camp. He was bad in training camp too!. He’s played WR at a high level in college. This isn’t new to him. He’s not a guy picked off the street. And Goff is part of that problem. ST Brown is one of the best, but he also gets a lot of catches, and yards because that’s Goff’s game. Everyone else has been reliable. GRADE - A-
TE’s - Sam LaPorta has been great. But he’s also doing a lot because Goff is a safe QB. He’s not breaking any records on another team. LaPorta has done well in every phase, including blocking. His tackle breaking, and no quit play is good stuff. But he’s dropped balls. Can’t say much about the other TE’s. GRADE B+.
OLine - Too many injuries, but they still do a good job. Credit the coaches. They have not played as well as they should including Decker, and Sewell. But the run blocking is fantastic. They can be better. GRADE - B+
DLine - Hutchinson should have like 10 sacks. The stats, PFF B/S, etc don’t tell the story. He’s unstoppable. He doesn’t have help. They’re getting the sacks. Some games they’re killing it. But AG deserves the credit. People who bash him don’t know football. This team is overachieving so it’s inconsistent. They have good depth, but no good players, and too many injuries. The bigs step up really well. The run stopping is holding me back from given them a bad grade, and forces me to give them a good grade. Personally, I love teams built to stop the run. Alim is like Aaron Donald right now, but I don’t know how real that is (yet). GRADE - C+
LB’s - I just checked, and saw that Anzalone ran a 4.6. He plays so much faster than that. He isn’t big, strong, and intimidating like a Bobby Wagner, but that guy is a reliable tackle, and flies all over the place. Barnes adds power to the run stopping game. I love Rodrigo. I loved the Jack Campbell pick, and he’s been ok, but for a guy who is supposed to have great speed, he plays super slow. He’s got the power to be intimidating, but he plays too careful. Like, on the job training. Like, one of those student drivers you see on the road. He should be way better than this. He should be one of their top defensive players. He needs to find that dawg in him. He’s got the power, speed, and intimidating factor. If he does, I think he’ll be a monster.
GRADE - B-
Secondary - I don’t know what the stats show, but Sutton is a lockdown CB. Moseley is out. Jacobs isn’t the best cover guy despite all his INT’s, but he plays like a dawg. His tackling, and run support goes un-noticed. Branch is that good. Everything you saw in college is what you see in the pros. The guy is a stud. “Deuce” is out, but Tracy Walker is good. I feel like they’re better with him. Kerby I feel is the reason for those busted plays, but he’s been a good player. They can be an A grade, but they need things to clean up. GRADE - B+
Special Teams - The kicker is untrustworthy, but the punter is outstanding. Very good ST play so far - tackling, blocking, running, but returning is so, so… GRADE - C+
Coaches - This team plays my favorite kind of football on offense, and defense. Or at least what they want to do on defense. ST included. In my opinion, AG is one of the best period. AG alone gets an A+ even thought that’ll make everyone scratch their heads. The coaching staff as a whole has been great. Dan Campbell is my favorite coach ever. He can make adjustments. He has no fear. He motivates his guys. He’s got so much love for the game, and players, but don’t F with him. For me, he knows how to run a team, and the style he brings is what I craved for so long. He’s not afraid to get on the players, and coaches. But he F’d up that Seattle game. GRADE - A-
General Manager - Sigh, he’s been up and down (ducking for cover). I wish people would stop thinking they know him. I used to argue with people about that. We all thought he was a trenches guy because of Sewell, Levi, and Alim, but he doesn’t seem to be. People want to crown him for Rodrigo, and Houston, but right now Kerby is the only guy he did well with when it comes to mid, or late round guys. If Goff is your guy why are you spending a 3rd round pick on Hooker? If Brodric was worth taking in the 3rd round, and using all your draft picks to get him, why isn’t he playing? That DT spot is so damn important. Hutch, and Sewell were no brainers. So far, Brad failed bad with Jamo, and trading up to get him makes it worse. I remember screaming for Jordan Davis. There is no doubt he drafted good players this year. There are 4 rookies on this team either playing, or expected to play BIG roles. Which is unheard of. But skipping out on pass rush help (in or out) early will always be questioned. He is aggressive during drafts which i love. GRADE - B-
Of course this is all my opinion. I base my opinion on watching the games, not what the stats, or PFF say. A million things can change.
