Agree 100%
But since he started today, he’s a starting QB
I don’t make the rules
I think the key to beating Flores teams is 1) communication up front, and 2) running the ball. We were a perfect counter for them for a couple of years, but that went out the door last year. Having Brock didn’t hurt us overall those first couple of years, it’s just the way he tried to attack. Of course knowing where someone is attacking from makes it much easier to counter as well.
Overall though I just don’t think he’s a great blocker. He’s not bad, necessarily, but he’s not a blocking TE as he sometimes portrayed. And you’re right I do greatly prefer him on the move.
I’d put Brissett into the same category as Geno Smith and Tyler Shough.
The true top tier starters we’ve faced this season are Allen and Young.
I agree with what you’re saying but I cannot put. Bryce & Josh in the same sentence.
What I saw today that hadn’t really seen was the juice after the catch
Weird game. Like why the hell were they so much better on defense? Were they faking it this whole time? That’s what it feels like.
I think part of what gave this team its swagger was going for it on 4th down. Told the team the coaches believed in them. Our magical year that was a given.
I think we got away from that aggressiveness early this year and it showed. This game was a much different game if we settled for field goals or punted. What did we have like three 4th down TDs?
That first call today is when we got our swagger back
For me it was when the team pushed Gibbs 8 yards forward after he’d already been stopped.
I came away from that game thinking that a LB that can cover a TE is one of our biggest needs going into next draft. At least Rodrigo and Jack were in the picture when their guy was catching the ball.
Maybe Penn State’s “Rojas” in the 3rd?
We played AZ
We should have looked better
How did you think the LBers played yesterday? On the face of it they looked better but the devil is in the detail
TBF, the team did give up 14 of those 21 points in garbage time and literally one of the best TD catches ive seen from McBride.
One of the announcers literally went “Whoa!” on Sunday because of how good of a block he made. I’m not sure what more you want out of the guy other than catches for first downs… which he also had.
This is pretty consistent with what I posted IMO. He’s a jack of all trades master of none TE. I think that is what we prefer. I very much want a badass 1980s style Y but over time I have realized that we would just as well bring an extra OT in for those situations which I can understand as well.
I just think the hate Brock gets is unjustified. He’s a fine number 2TE. Nothing to write home about but not a player that needs to be replaced.
I think you need to keep in mind how special McBride is. The Higgins and Quitoriano catches to me seemed more so a byproduct of either good offensive design or communication breakdown. With McBride I thought we were actually mostly in good position but his ball skills are just out of this world.
That being said I would love to add a LBer like that. I haven’t really watched Penn State so I don’t know how Rojas’ recovery from the ACL has gone. I have always been a fan of his though and have brought him up bc I think he at least comes close to our LB size threshold which is an issue.
But Rolder looks quite spry. I just don’t think he knows what he’s doing yet. I think he’s the solution to the role you mention going forward. Or at least we hope so.
Ohhhh idk… How about consistency? He misses far too many blocks in the backfield
How is that possible? He didn’t go to Iowa.
No offense to Brock Wright, but I’m not paying a him top 30 TE money for someone that is an average blocker and logs 15 receptions in a year. I know Dan likes him, but we can’t keep paying guys a lot more than they are worth just because Dan likes him. I just don’t think Brock Wright should be making more than people like Dalton Kincaid.
He’s tied for 41st in AAV. That puts him as a middle of the road TE2. That also isn’t including all the first contract guys so that really pays him more like a low end contract 2. His contract is fine. Did he get a small bump bc of the RFA situation? Sure. But that is how it works at times. And by now that overpayment has decayed with age.
Clearly you know that as soon as Kincaid hit his second contract he’ll be 12-14m per season more than Wright. Why use that example? Seems disingenuous.
Jeremy Ruckert is on a 2/10m contract. Similar player to Brock IMO.
