Personally I’m offended by several of the NFL team names. The Packers is clearly a derogatory term. The Raiders, talk about being offensive to pirates. And then you have the ■■■■■■■ Cowboys, what about the Cowgirls? Don’t even get me started on the teams named after Birds.

The nfl is a joke

Us Danes don’t cotton to those Swedes in Minneapolis calling themselves Vikings for what it’s worth.

The one that bugs me is the Saints. C’mon, what about all of us sinners?

I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the Saints, the sinners are much more fun.

Shocker * but hey never had a problem one with the Redskins name…but fragile sensibilities will complain about what “offends” them-* knock on wood, and protest about that name . anyhoo --I don’t think Washington will get back thee Redskins title again.

I really liked the “football team”. WFT. Loved it.

Probably the new least surprising think I’ve ever heard.

How did the Chiefs escape the cultural condemnation? Their logo and tomahawk chop chant is about as racially cartoonish as you can get

They’re just looking to scalp tickets!

The Washington sinners would have been a perfect name for that city. Lol

What people don’t realize is that most Native Americans weren’t offended by the Redskin name. Most Native American were fans of the franchise.

It’s sad when we let a small group tell us how we should feel or think.

…… but we have to be really careful with this thread. It boarders on politics.

I’m not offended by the name even when I’m sunburnt.

So just to clarify in case anyone is confused. The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is an organization that has existed since the 40s and had objected to the Redskins name and logo for almost 10 years before they changed it. NCAI has a ton of issues they work on and is a fairly large and well resourced organization with an HQ in DC.

Native American Guardian’s Association (NAGA) is 501c3 that was set up in 2019 that seems to have been in response to the team deciding to change the name. They appear to be poorly resourced and focused on this single issue.

The problem with Washington, unlike Kansas City, SDSU, or Florida State is that they got zero buy in from regional tribes and did zero outreach. Same issue that Cleveland had. If they wanted to have something Indian related they could have but the management wanted nothing to do with that headache.

Bingo! That’s what was so ridiculous about the whole thing. Most of them liked the name and the team. If anything they lost fans. In 2021 and 2022, Washington has had the worst home game attendance in the nfl.

I would have guessed it stood for Native America Great Again.

Just do what florida st did. Use a local tribe to come up with the name and logo.

The problem is no tribes indigenous to the DC area have names anywhere near transitioning well to “Washington ____________s”
