NFL adopts a smart bylaw change to eliminate roster chicanery

The NFL smartly approved a bylaw change to the way the initial 53-man roster gets constructed at the end of the preseason. Proposed by the Lions, the new rule will eliminate some of the roster chicanery that teams have been forced to do.

Up to Two Players can be placed on IR in preseason and come back in season.

Ie moseley.

Definitely makes it easier on holmes because cut downs will be brutal this year!

Right.

The headline makes zero sense.
chicanery /shĭ-kā′nə-rē, chĭ-/

noun

  1. Deception by trickery or sophistry.
  2. Mean or unfair artifice to perplex a cause and obscure the truth; stratagem; sharp practice; sophistry.

If anything, stashing 2 players on IR during training camp invites chicanery.

I am wholeheartedly in support of the rule. I HATE that a legitimately injured player during camp has to be part of the 53 when we cut down.

Hooker was PUP and didn’t count. Know who else didn’t count? Jamo because he was suspended. But a guy like Mosely was brought back during the cut to 53 so that he could be called up sooner (had he remained on PUP, his return would have been later in the season, which it ended up being anyway). Anyhow, the point is a guy like Mosely (or Paschal the year before) should be IR’d during camp and not count toward the 53.
