NFL.com 49ers @ Lions Preview

DC does not suffer fools and their whack-a-mole questions . Shame on that hack for asking a yes/no question that nobody would ever answer No to.

“Well actually no the plan is to prove them right because…”

I actually found this to be funny. Like an elementary school kid trying to bait someone into the drama triangle. …None for me, little dude. Hope you get what you need out of life…and just so you are aware, that will entail coming from a more honest place.

How little faith in your writing ability would you have to have in order to post something like this? Total baiting from a a space of neediness. Very lazy with zero ownership of self.

First off, I want to apologize for posters on this board believing there’s a collective thought that Kyle Shanahan is a genius.

That might just be me :joy:

You’re in a better boat than me, bro.
The only geniuses I talk about are Chuck Norris and Jack Fox

I will be surprised if the Lions even score a offensive TD in this game.

The genius label gets thrown around often. Kyle Shanahan is one of the only “genius” ships I’m willing to hop on board and ride until it sinks.

Anyone know if 9ers have had same scouting dept for LB’s past 5-10 years? If so they are the best in the biz

from my limited perspective, it feels like their only weakness is QB.
Screw the rook…put him in, our DL will test his ability to throw on the run.

He may not be a genius & those leaks show through. Few people in management have been groomed for their role like him since childhood. That gives him an edge. If he can go Andy Reid with it and adapt to the times remains to be seen

And, maybe, MCDC is the new genius on the block! And he going to a more genius genius than KS?!

My preview: if the right side of the OL doesnt get Goff wheeled out on a stretcher and somehow keeps him realitevely unscathed all game, then it is a win for the Lions…not an actual W in win column per-say, but a win for Sewel, the Lions team future, and Goff’s future descendents.

Edited for: and if Okudah doesnt shit his pants and can at least hold his own, that is also a slight win.

I will sink upon that boat with you. :joy:

I’m sorta required to loathe Ratahan - there’s a Rams fan bylaw or something- but even I have to admit that he’s a very good coach and team builder, even if he comes across publicly as an arrogant humorless douche.

Still, I think “genius” is a stretch for anyone who excels at a sport, coach or player. It’s just too limited in scope & everything is just recycled in different combinations.Name something truly original ( a key element of genius, imo) in football after the invention of the forward pass ?

The Rams haven’t handled his offense well, imo, so not much to offer as a template. I think you have potentially better outside pass rush than The Rams which will help vs Jimmy G. Todd Wash was an underrated hire, imo, & the Detroit DL personnel gives him some chance of surprising early this season. Watched a lot of Jax defensive tape after the Jalen Ramsey trade. The birth of the Sacksonville defense was fun to watch. A lot of guys upfront got very productive pdq .

I’m also intrigued by the similarities between the Whiner offense and what I think Detroit is going for, reading the personnel tea leaves, anyway. Goff= a better Jimmy G , Hock= Kittle, big fast outside WRs & versatile tough slots who run disciplined routes. I think the parallels might be even greater in the run game; Cabinda= Juscysk (sp?),the well-stocked O-line, the versatile RB rotation (explosive one cut ZBS types who can also run inside, catch, and block, not specialist jukesters or bulldozers).

Mirror, mirror, on the wall… What will the offense look like when Detroit wins it all ? You might well see it doubled up this Sunday, just not as grooved schematically or complete personnel-wise in Lions colors.

Really enjoyed the read. I do think genius extends to sports…especially football (so many moving parts), and especially coaching. There is a lot to understanding multiple 5-D chess pieces that all have different characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, intangibles, etc. I could go WAY more into it. I do think it’s a form of genius though.

What’s interesting is he said that football is too narrow of a scope to consider someone a genius, but then eluded to the idea that only people who invent something can be considered genius. Which is a narrow scope of genius.

That was a question from Wojo… and while I do like him, it was an incredibly slanted question and MC/DC just shut that down and called him out on it.

Dumb question, awesome response.

There are some seriously smart MF’rz in the football world. Next-level stuff that takes years to study and get right. Then factoring in instinct, having a feel for/sense of the game, knowing who you can count on for what, understanding strengths and weaknesses, how to outsmart ppl, etc. Fascinates me.

Hey Natty,
thx. Always enjoy your stuff here.
I don’t want to send your opening game preview thread down a rabbit hole, so I’ll just say I think we disagree about the difference between being really good at something, no matter how complex, and doing something truly new and different.
I’ll call Ratahan anything you want if Detroit sends him home with a bloody beak and bow to his walk.
Beat The Whiners !
