Seems like VJ Payne messed up his value proposition ![]()
Roush’s arm length may help us. His workout otherwise would have ramped his stock. One of the few legit two way TEs. I’d like to come away with him if possible.

Anybody have thoughts on Taccario Davis? Not early, but he’s a guy that I wouldn’t sleep on.
Only on Tuesdays
This is more confirmation than anything new but based off of the pre draft process so far man do I hope we can trade down. Trade out of the first altogether for all I care.
Yep, if the price is right, make it so.
I am all for a trade down unless we see a LT that is just too good to pass up. I think Freeling has all the skills necessary, but the Lions have a whole list of filters other than how well a guy plays football to make that determination. I see reports on Freeling going anywhere from top ten to the top ten of the 2nd round. With Decker coming back it means that we don’t have to force the issue if he is not our guy.
You really shouldn’t have to spend draft capital on him. UDFA or the name is false advertising. Class action from 31 fan bases incoming.
Oh yeah I’m a big Payne fan. I’d say I’ve drafted him in 75+% of the mock sims since they all have him so criminally low, though I expect that changes after yesterday. I think he’s a real matchup weapon with that length, and he knows how to use it. Excellent diagnosing downhill.
And while I don’t think the tackling is bad necessarily, I do wonder if our FO will wish he showed a little more spirit for it. I don’t think he shies away or anything, but he doesn’t show the mad man tendencies our brass seems to prefer. Conversely he’s a captain and noted leader, and maybe some of those mad man tendencies are getting our DBs in trouble.
You and me both
What a strange profile. Third-shortest arms ever? TEs block so often length probably matters for them more than most pass-catchers, but then his blocking tape is pretty good. Hopefully you’re right and he falls.
I think Freeling is my #1 realistic option for us, though there’s a very good chance he skyrockets over the next couple of days. We need something to happen to keep his stock in check, rather than him testing like the Sadiq/Styles of OTs.

I did go back and watch some tape on Payne. I guess with his size and the name Payne people are expecting something like the Oklahoma S Roy Williams. That he is not but I see an excellent player in space and he does not shy away from contact. Very quick to break on the ball and dislodge from receivers. I think we could use some of that.
I still like Roush for his blocking. the short arms may hamper him on contested catches but we don’t throw them. It could mean less holding calls because his hands can’t reach outside the shoulder pads.
Jeremiyah Love with a 4.37 in the 40…
Not a lot of big surprises.
I guess Germie Bernard at 6’1, 206 is interesting, thought he might be a little smaller than that.
Denzel Boston is a legit 6’4, 212 with 32 inch arms.
Zachariah Branch at 5’8.5 177 is on the smaller side.
Josh Cameron with 33+ inch arms at 6’1.5 (and 220), pretty freaky length. They’re an inch longer than Malachi Fields’s arms, despite him being 3 inches taller (6’4.5).
Carnell Tate with 10 1/4 inch hands, which I think is tied for the biggest in the class?
Jordyn Tyson at 6’2, 203, bigger than we thought.
Ha, that’s exactly what he predicted he would run at the podium. So no surprise, we all knew he was a blazer, but nice call. Hopefully he bet on himself.
Mike Washington Jr. with a 4.33 at 232 pounds. ![]()

He’s fantastic with the stuff in front of him. Great trigger, not easily fooled, intuitive knack for sifting through traffic, athletic enough to play some split looks, might even be able to get away with single-high.
He definitely doesn’t shy away from contact, especially in the passing game, I just don’t think he’s a very sound tackler technically. It’s kill shots or missed tackles. Again it’s a mentality we can work with, though I do wish he was a little more interested in gang tackling. He has a habit of letting his teammates finish things off, and sometimes it backfires. I actually noticed a similar issue with Rakestraw, so maybe we’re OK with it.
Well there goes his value. And with almost 34 inch arms too. He was my RB 3 coming into the day, though that’s admittedly very low overall, it’s a crap RB class. But he’s probably going day 2 now.
