NFL Draft Inequality- Brad Holmes- "please do your part in fixing the process.... TRADE DOWN!"

OBJ was their #2 target during their run. Let’s nkt pretend he wasn’t.

Whitworth was not a Rams draft pick.

Easiest Trade to predict IMO, is SEA trading either #40 or #41, to go back into the 1st Round for someone. Who is the question.

If the right QB, for them, is available at #32, you can bet the house SEA will call Holmes ASAP. Trading #40 + #109 (4th Pick in the 4th Rd) for #32 from DET, works Chart-wise… Whether Holmes will bite is TBD. Holmes may wait for other offers or KEEP #32, and draft a player, who he thinks will NOT be available at #40, assuming he already knows who he will likely pick at #34.

So I just made a post in the trade up #32 and #34 thread. The data even surprised me as I compiled it.

I simply looked at rd 3 from 2016-2018….

Guys like JSimmons, J Reid, T Walker and Byard

Guys like Kamara, K Hunt, and Conner at RB

Guys like Kupp, Godwin, Golladay, Gallup at WR

Guys like F Warner, Mark Andrews, K Fuller

It’s seems like special roles go in round 3-

Slot WRs like Godwin or Kupp. 3rd down back like Kamara or Hunt. Receiving TE like Andrews

Guys making 1.5M or less a year with a 33% shot at being really good starters.

Same players at 5 or 6 so why would anybody want to trade with us?

40, 109 and 152 is a pretty fair deal.

But that’s not the deal I proposed…You’re adding an upper quarter 5th Rounder (152) as a sweetener, I assume…If I’m Holmes, I’m thinking…Hmmmmm…Then I’m quickly checking my notes for what’s the percentage of players drafted in the 5th Round having an NFL Career of at least 4 years…??..Nope, I’m settling for #32 or waiting for a better deal. Just my opinion.

Depends on the board I’d imagine. If there are a lot of similarly ranked players then I’d be more inclined. If it’s a small handful and then a drop off then just make the pick at 32.

Because it gives more picks to mock draft for the Lions.

Duh.

You are right. I’m naive and my post is a self serving prophecy.

The 5 to 8 first round only trades every year exclude the Lions….

There are no prospects like Waddle, Wentz, or Trubisky in this draft. 3 firsts for Trey Lance is logical, but a mere 2 or even 3 is unthinkable.

The point of my post is that there is not a unilateral draft pick market…. Leasing a nice pickup right now costs nearly 850.00, but just 2.5 years ago my Sierra Denali was 650.00…. Same truck… less supply and more demand.

Jets just became estranged from Becton and Fant is on his last year…. Sure they could wait til 4, but if at 7:35am… what if Jags decide to go Icky at #1, and then Texans go Neal at #3…. Or once Icky is gone, the Giants decide to move to #3 from #5 to secure Neal…

With a 2nd year QB, you think they want to role Fant and a random at OT?

It’s the more beanz is better philosophy. We want more beanz so let’s make ours cheap enough that other teams will see the value and give us more beanz in return.

It’s the quantity is more valuable than quality belief. (Which is backwards)

The truth is most NFL teams take the approach that quality is more valuable than quantity. See Rams….

Look at it like this…… the average NFL team turns over 20-30% of their roster in any given year. That’s 10-15 players on average.

Most teams sign 3-4 key Free agent additions and 4-5 role players via free agency. So if you trade down multiple times and end up with a dozen draft picks or more then your probably not going to be able to keep them all on your roster. There’s only so many spots in your roster. That’s why you rarely see teams keep more than 8 picks. When teams have more than 8 they usually package some together and move up because they know they can’t retain them all.

More beanz isn’t always better.

I’m of the belief that you try to collect as many top 150 picks as possible. The picks below that should be traded away or used to pick up specialists, role players or projects.

I’m fine with trading down and acquiring more top 150 picks but there’s a limit to it.

Maybe package a pick from beyond 150 with the comp 3rd to get back higher in the third for someone?

A lot of ways it’s been done by teams with beanz. Get more then get better beanz is just one way.

I just take it as Lions fans trying their best to suit their dreams and fantasies… :man_shrugging:
