And….

the article even takes the screen shot AFTER his hand touches the ground…. which wasn’t supporting his weight.

.

.

.

but….

this is when he actually lands on him….

not supporting his weight…..

and what the ref was looking directly at….

so it is reasonable for the ref to assume he landed on McCarthy with the majority of his weight… since…. well…. nothing else is touching the ground other than his toes!!!

It was a pathetic call.. At least the nfl admits it

Needs to be reviewable. I get why the refs called it.

Goff took an even harder hit I believe on the very next series and they didn’t call no penalty and I yelled at that like WTF??

as if they’ll do anything about it.

So, you said it shouldn’t have been called, the nfl did not fine him meaning it should have not been called a Roughing the Passer for excessive force or weight…and you’re still trying to prove why it should have been called?

I never said that at all.

I said I hate the rule.

However… I understand why the ref would throw the flag based on the language of the rule…. and the pressure to protect QBs.

.

I could care less if the league fines a player.

That is hindsight.

The ref saw Jack land on the QB…. and his hand was NOT on the turf bracing his fall when he initially landed on JJ.

If someone can dispute that fact….. I’m all ears. :man_shrugging:

the other thing, phunny, is that you can not put your full weight on the QB by landing (at least partially) to the side. Campbell was to the right side of McCarthy, not 100% directly on top of him. Even Shep said in his press conference, to comply with the NFL rules, our player landed to the side of the QB, yet it was still called.

It was a bad call.

Think the announcers said at the time it was a penatly based on the rule, then added it’s a terrible rule as that shouldn’t be a penalty.

You can’t tackle any more in this league. Only wrap up and hope ref blows the whistle. :smiling_face_with_horns:

My bad I guess but you did say the flag wasn’t merited, so that says that you didn’t think the flag should have been thrown.

No worries, good discussion.

What part of Jack Campbell’s weight is NOT on JJ in these pics?

His left shoulder and helmet are squarely in his chest.

The tips of his toes are the only other body part touching the ground…. barely.

Considering that Jack hit him with a running start… nearly all of his weight is directly landing on JJ through Jack’s shoulder.

It’s a bullshit rule but pretty easy to see why the ref would call it in real time. Needs to be reviewable.

Yeah, but, JJ is hugging Campbell like he’s Campbell’s girlfriend. Look at his right arm (both pictures). Campbell couldn’t get away if he wanted to. McCarthy has him by the helmet.

I said what I said.

Just because he didn’t get fined doesn’t mean it wasn’t a penalty.

Per the definition of the rule it was a penalty. It wasn’t blatant and he should not be fined

you keep bringing up the same stills that are equivocal. none of those views are conclusive.

the rule also brings up the words “strive to”. which is different than actually accomplishing it.

my LAST words on this: It was a bad call.

no more.
