One good season against one of the weakest schedules in NFL history, and they guy is the next Brady.

It just goes to show that people love that off script ability while the pure excellence of execution is only appreciated if you win it all.
There is no doubt that Goff is a top 5 QB in the league. His game stats prove that. And everyone says winning is a team event except for QBs. Goff is punished for not winning the SB. When he wins one with the Lions he will become a guy who won 1 and made it to another with 2 teams…thus the narrative around him will change overnight.
Look up QB stats over the last 3 season and tell me how a guy who leads the NFL in yards, completion percentage, TD passes is not top 5 LOL this is a joke

To me, it’s a combination of two factors.
- People have a misguided understanding on difficulty. If they see someone who makes things look easy, it must be because it IS easy! If they see someone do something you are generally not supposed to do, well now that person is special! People also believe that if you can make said special throw, then obviously you can also make all of the “easy” throws too!
Here’s facts that anyone who actually has played ANY sport can tell you. That “unbelievable” shot/throw etc that just happened, the chances of a pro doing it and you doing it are much closer than you think. The people that can hit the 7 out of 10 difficult throw, and do it nearly every single time, are much better players than the guy who sucks for most of the game and then throws the one crazy pass. In an even crazier instance, people are far quicker to give up on the guy who can make 7 out of 10 throws, and keep a guy who can make 1 out of 10 throws, because the 7/10 guy is already at his max potential, but the 1/10 throw guy… “Oh man, if we can just teach him how to do the easy stuff, we are going to really have something!” Those players often become your coach killers, because everyone thinks the only thing missing is someone who can teach the person to do “easy” stuff.
For Goff specifically, until he wins a Super Bowl as a Lion, he will always be looked down on. Here’s my theory why, it’s the media.
- The media said for years, that rookie coaches always fail in the NFL. Sean McVay came in, and had instant success. He broke their narrative. So what did the media do? Oh, the reason McVay won as a rookie coach, is because he is a SAVANT! He is an offensive God tier wizard! They have to make it look like McVay is exceptional, so they can still be right about rookie coaches, and they can explain why McVay was able to overcome their label.
Now, fast forward to Goff. Goff was loved and praised by the media early on, and most of us remember how it was Goff who beat the mighty Mahomes on the MNF football game. Then, Rams fail in the Super Bowl and the annointed offensive wizard, blames it on Goff. Now, the media spins it as “Goff sucks, the only reason he was initially successful is because of Sean McVay, and now that McVay says he isn’t good, Jared Goff will never be good.”
Goff comes to Detroit, initially sucks, and everyone says “See? McVay was right, Goff sucks.” Add in that Stafford goes to LA, and the Rams win the Super Bowl, and now the story is “McVay is the wizard, Stafford got out of a loser city and is now a winner, and Goff still sucks!”
Now, Goff starts winning in 2022. Wins the division in 2023. Beats Stafford and the guru in the playoffs. Goff earns a little respect, but the media immediately must find a reason that the guy they said would never be successful, is now succeeding. Wait… It’s gotta be their OC, BEN JOHNSON! Ben Johnson is such a savant, he even has Jared Goff playing at a high level!
Ben Johnson goes to Chicago, and what does everyone say? “Detroit’s done, Goff will go back to being terrible, and oh my dear God, Ben Johnson is now paired with the guy we the media already anointed as the next Patrick Mahomes!?! No one will stop them!” Hell, media people were even picking the Bears to win the Super Bowl last year, and this year as well.
The fun thing will be if this season doesn’t go well in Chicago, the media is going to have to pick whose fault it is. My guess is, they will blame Johnson, and say that he is just another example of a good OC who can’t be a HC. The media spent wayyyy to much time propping up Caleb as Mahomes 2.0, so any coach who can’t get that out of him, it will be that coach’s fault. This is despite the fact that even in college, Caleb’s numbers are pretty pedestrian for some elite player. Again, it comes down to the fact Caleb could make the crazy throws, despite being terrible most of the game and not winning anything of note. Caleb is already WAY behind schedule for Mahomes. Mahomes first full year in the league, he won the Super Bowl and had a 5k, 50TD passing season. Even during his worst year, Mahomes has never looked as bad as Caleb has.
At the end of the day, the media is always going to create dots on a line that point back to them being right. Even when they are wrong, it’s because there was some exceptional, unforeseen circumstance that happened that caused them to be wrong, but really they were still right. Until Goff wins a Super Bowl, the media will always find a way to use the same old “If you pressure Goff, he will fail” cliche, even though last year Goff was still producing at a high level behind a trash OL that got him sacked almost 40 times. There’s only one thing Goff can do.
The media have their heads up their asses, and, it shows.

It really comes down to this.
Since the Goff / Stafford trade Matthew Stafford has won the Super Bowl one year and won the MVP award another.
I’m not going to mention that the 3 seasons in between were mediocre seasons that were his 3 worst seasons outside of 2009, 2010, 2018 and 2019 with us.
Goff is also having his best seasons while all of the flashy dual threat QBs are in their prime. The media and pundits are always going to choose Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Caleb Williams, Justin Herbert, Drake Maye, Bo Nix, etc. over Goff.

the Media is going to make all kinds of negative "claims " about Goff until/ unless Goff gets another Bowl win in Detroit. until then, they will say all kinds of stupid shit to discredit Jared Goff.
There’s a handful of franchises that get love no matter what they do for different circumstances. Patriots, 49ers, Cowboys, Chiefs because of the dynasty’s. Packers because of their basically life long sustained success and the back to back SBs in 1 & 2. The Steelers for being the blue collar grit team winning 5 SBs…then the major markets like New York and Los Angeles…and everybody else. Detroit is actually the team that’s been so irrelevant over time that they are easy to dismiss. I mean they are ranked outside the top 10 by everyone and average out around 14. That is laughable for a team with the most wins in the league over the last 3 years. And we’ve lost nothing but 2 safeties with an entire core in their prime or younger.
It was the same story with Matt Stafford throughout his career here. Then he is traded to LA and is instantly a stud. This should be a big fat eye roll and who cares to lions fans. We know Jared Goff is great…who cares if he’s not recognized for it? ■■■■em 
Goff is criminally under-rated. But that’s good. Keeps fools being fools and his salary at a level the Lions can also sign other guys!
I just don’t understand the hurry to anoint young qbs to top 10 status after only 1 year. Consistency matters at that position and I much rather have a seasoned vet then a young guy as that’s not a young man’s position imo.
It is a strange thing for sure. The NFL isn’t like the NBA where you need GOAT face of the franchise guys for it to survive. Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are already being crowned special. It’s really funny in Caleb’s case because if you deep dive into what happened last year it’s hilarious how fortunate the Bears/Caleb were. The hype is centered around a dozen highlight real plays. If he was our QB, his style and antics would make me sick.
I honestly believe without the NFL wanting the next Brady or Manning Mahomes doesn’t have 3 SBs. He definitely still wins that first one. But I’m not so sure he has two more without help from the league.
