So heres the standings.
Current playoff format.
And the format ive seen people clamoring for.
3-2-1 point system for the regular season.
Every game is worth 3 points.
3 points for regulation win
2 points for OT win 1 point for OT Loss
0 points for regulation loss
And a 1-8 seeding
Just to make it easier to compare i used a points percentage. With current max points 164
And under the 3-2-1 system 246
The 3-2-1 system barely changes the order in each Conference
And the 1-8 playoff format barely changes anything. Only really giving a good 3rd place team a better “seed” over a bad 1st place team. Thats about it.
NBA is the only league that does a 1-8 seeding. Division titles dont matter.
NFL MLB and NHL reward division winners with a better playoff seed. Which i think how it should be.
The final 4. (Conference champ games) will then USUALLY feature 4 of the best teams, each from a different division.
If you can beat a team in your own division, you dont deserve to be a final 4 team. Doesn’t matter if your better than another division. Your not the best in YOUR division
