Has passed away at age 41… so sad and so young
Damn what happened with him
Kidney disease
I remember hearing recently they were posting hoping to find an emergency kidney match for him. That’s terrible. He was a hell of a player. ![]()

Very sad. It sounds like he knew about the condition since becoming a pro so hopefully that vantage allowed him to live out as full of a life as possible within the time constraints. RIP and thoughts and prayers to his loved ones.
Life is too dang short fellas. A sad reminder to cherish every moment we have. Hug and cherish your family and friends. For as much as we can bicker and disagree about football, we are ALL blessed to have each other and a place to come together for the Lions and football/sports in general.
Hope all my Den brothers and sisters and your loved ones are well!! For those battling through things, continued prayers for a positive outcome as quickly as possible.
So so sad.
I’m glad you added that context because I connected kidney disease with steroid abuse instantly. Yes, very sad, no matter what. I nearly drowned at 41 due to my ignorance of rip tides and I’m here to tell you I would have missed a sizable chunk of good life.
Same here. I retired from the Navy at 41. That was 20 years ago.
Why so judgy? ![]()
Did a fortune teller tell you about those rip tides 19 years prior?
My magical magnifying mind cooks up theories faster than Jiffy Pop, and Whoomp, there it is, in all its unfiltered glory.
Edit: On second thought, I guess I connected it because an acquaintance in the 80s transformed himself from a creampuff to The Hulk through the magic of steroids, and shortly after that lost a kidney because of that abuse.
I wonder if it was the same condition that Sweetness had.
That’s a bummer he couldn’t find a donor. He was a great player.
A former teammate of mine from college died last month from heart issues at age 46. Also an olinemen. He played in the CFL for 6 or 7 years. Hate to say it but those large fellas that are 6 foot 5, 300+ pounds don’t usually live late into life.
RIP Nick… He was a heck of a player
I thought Sweetness died from liver?!?!
Whoops. I should be better with my tragic death knowledge. Especially around Halloween.
Very sad. It sounds like he knew about the condition since becoming a pro so hopefully that vantage allowed him to live out as full of a life as possible within the time constraints. RIP and thoughts and prayers to his loved ones.
If that is true…
I am surprised he played as long as he did….
or was even allowed to continue playing.
Maintaining a playing weight and lifting heavy weights on an NFL regimen isn’t ideal for the kidneys.
I mean it’s AI true. Is that truth though? It’s hard to know with the hallucinations. Could be that someone posted it on Reddit in 2011 and the GPU goblins just went with it. Brave New World!
