And we have no way of knowing how Carter would’ve worked in Detroit. Your theoretical world isn’t more real than mine.
You’re overestimating Jalen Carter’s impact.
…
Correct. We don’t know. But we do know Carter was never a culture fit here.
Doubt.
a) If we drafted Carter, we wouldn’t have signed Reader.
and
b) We don’t know how Carter would perform/act here, because … he isn’t here
Again, your theoretical world falls apart under close inspection.
I take Gibbs over Carter every day and twice on Sunday. Gibbs is a generational talent. Carter is talented, with the downside of potentially busting the moment things don’t go his way.
Most importantly it wasn’t Gibbs or Carter. We got Gibbs and LaPorta instead of Carter..
The Lions selected Gibbs after trading back from No. 6 to No. 12 with the Arizona Cardinals. Detroit also received a second-round pick (No. 34) and a fifth-round selection (No.168) to go along with No. 12
I mean is anyone surprised he’s good? We all knew he was an all-time prospect at the position, and when he went to the Eagles everyone without fail thought yeah, he’ll be good there. I don’t know why anyone thinks this is a surprise. So if we weren’t wrong then we aren’t wrong now.
One thing for sure. He’d have been injured and out for the season.
One other for sure, as in it’s history;
Brad Holmes was voted executive of the year in back to back years for 23 and 24, including winning Best Draft by his peers for 2023 for the haul we pulled down.
In fact…. all of the talent around Carter also makes it easier for him to have success as well.
It is hard to double him all the time when he has Nolan Smith lined up next to him… and a rotation including Jordan Davis and Milton Williams to his other side.
And the Eagles had no way of knowing how he would work for them either, so? The point is, they made the right decision and we saw that last night. They knew as much about Carter as we did. So Brad made a massive error in not taking him because of the incredible potential payoff that the Eagles clearly saw and that we all saw last night. The payoff was TOO HIGH to pass on, that’s the point. He could have failed with the Eagles the same as he could have with us, but the Eagles CORRECTLY knew that the payoff, if he worked out, would be incredible, and clearly Brad thought B Martin would suffice for passing on him, we see how that all worked out, clearly showing Brad was terribly wrong here,
A, no Reader, so you mean we would have had more money to sign something we needed other than DT, that’s fine. So we would just have Hutch, Carter, Alim, and maybe a really good signed DE to help Hutch with that Reader money, sounds good.
B. We don’t know how he would have performed, yet then you say he wouldn’t have been a culture fit here, hmm. That’s odd, he didn’t play here and you know he wouldn’t fit the culture, and yet he didn’t play here and we don’t know if he would have played well. into contradictions much?
WE DO know the payoff now, don’t we? The risk was worth it to the Eagles, and they were paid off well for that risk and to claim the risk was any different for the Lions is just baseless. Brad clearly thought he could pass on Cater because he thought (Smartest man in the room syndrome) that B Martin was a secret weapon pick that would give him most of what he was missing in Carter, and he was VERY BADLY WRONG!!!
Come on Nate, this is obvious stuff. He thought B Martin was what would allow him to pass on Carter, and it was a very bad decision and assessment. The payoff was too high not to take the risk, this is simply obvious.
Tell me, is Brad even capable of making mistakes, in your opinion? It was a mistake to pass on Carter, period, and it is obvious now. We don’t know how he woulod have played here, BUT THE EAGLES DIDN’T KNOW EITHER, the difference is, THEY KNEW THE RISK WAS WORTH THE PAYOFF, Brad Failed to realize it, and we saw the payoff happen for the Eagles, we should have taken the risk like they did, this is just obvious.
Brad has been great, best GM we have ever had, but passing on Carter was just a bad mistake, simple as that.
I also think it was a mistake, and we probably won’t pick that high again for a long time, but thank god at least the Bears passed on him. I’d hate to see him in the division. He’s a game wrecker. We’re probably going to have to beat the Eagles in the playoffs though. And my god look what they did to Patrick Mahomes the best QB in the league. 10.7 passer rating in the first half. The Eagles D won this game.
There’s really no need to. The Lions are not a 4 win team still trying to break a curse like they were prior to the Holmes/Campbell era. The Lions are in the same spot as Philly was at this team a year ago….a one and done in the playoffs except the Lions got eliminated in the divisional round while Philadelphia lost in the wild card. That said….the Lions, in spite of the playoff blunder this year, are still a Super Bowl contender. And I say this being a guy who wanted Jordan Davis in 2022(Jamo) and Jalen Carter(Gibbs). Hindsight being 20/20 and all….ill roll with what the Lions, or Holmes and Campbell, actually did and I will certainly roll with the results….for now!
Great guys around him, so here he would have only had Hutch, Alim, maybe another very good DE ith the Reader money, awesome set of backers and secondary, hmm, sounds like he would have had great players here too.
And on signing him, comfortable paying himthe millions, but you forgot to mention paying him, you know, AFTER A FRICKIN SUPERBOWL WIN!!! Surely you didn’t want to forget that part, did you? You let my Lions win a SB, I wouldn’t give a damn who we signed to contracts, huge ones, if that player played a huge roll in winning a SB.
So ask that question again, guys would you feel comfortable signing him AFTER WINNING A FRICKING SUPERBOWL, let’s pause there, in fact, let’s say it again, AFTER WINNING A SUPERBOWL, would you have a problem signing JC to a massive contract after having a huge part in, uh, pause, AFTER WINNING THE SUPERBOWL?? Uh, NO, I would want to sign him no matter what just as I expect the Eagles to do, you know, sign a MASSIVE, UNBLOCKABLE talent who just helped WIN THEM A SUPERBOWL!!
So, hmm, no problem, you play a huge role in WINNING OUR LIONS A SUPERBOWL, I wan to sign you, yep, absolutely, affirmative, Yep,
So I’m losing your logic on “I’m right, we should have drafted Carter because he won the Super Bowl.” Especially since there is no sport that’s more of a team game than football. Good for Carter. He joined a good team. But there is no logic on this planet that you legitimately can say we should have drafted him because he won a Super Bowl. You can say he’s a good player. But he doesn’t have a bigger impact than Gibbs. He just doesn’t. Sorry.
