Ah, yeah I didn’t get that. The part where you ordered it by number confused me ![]()
That’s on me. I didn’t put that in there and should have.
Nothing is for sure. They could trade up, tade down…stand put…campbell or stewart could unexpectedly be there…or someone else they covet more…but the list of who they covet more then femi is apparently really short. Again, 4 meetings and a covert secret meeting with high ranking Lt of Holmes…thats telling. First is in play.
Yeah that’s been having me think also, seems they been interviewing some smaller faster guys . One thing I’ll say you never know what Brad might do, I sure don’t have him figured out. I try to match the type players they seem to like and there character. But just when you think it’s the crush the can type , they start interviewing the smaller bendy guys.
Talk about gray area… 2 Accusations, zero police reports… We know nothing about the accusations either. Obviously it’s nothing as severe as rape as that would definitely generate a police report… These are questions we’ll never have a full answers to. Gotta trust the staff… But to me, I don’t hold anything against a 19 year old kid playing grab ass at a college party and pissing off a girl… Not everyone has Jayden Daniels’ mom ![]()
Well as you say he was also accused in high school. Two separate reports is a little more worrying. And he WAS dismissed from the Virginia team, so there’s more smoke there than just the rumors.
This is a “if he checks out” kind of deal
Fun question. To answer the OP without looking at others:
Question A. Donovan Jackson makes WAY too much sense here. Its not a sexy pick, but its what we need. And - more importantly he is outstanding and fits what we do. So he is a great mix of need and want (upside). I also think JTT from Ohio State fits this bill as far as high floor and doing the things we want downs 1 and 2. And its not like he is a bad pass rusher, just not great. Some talent to work with though.
Question B: If I’m being totally honest, I don’t really have a guy I would be elated to draft. More honesty: I don’t really like this draft. Plenty of guys that can help, but not a lot of guy with tons of upside in my book. I think that is why I like Jackson so much. He is safe and he’ll be plug and play IMO. And he has the upside to be a really really good guard even though its not the sexiest position group.
Gun to my head? Probably one of the DTs. I don’t want run defense problems because if we get those, and we run the same D as last year, then everything else falls apart. I’d probably say somebody like Kenneth Grant. Dominant run stopper. Would give us a big dude with some upside in the pass rush game maybe.
Question C: I like the upside of guys like Pearce Jr. and Turner, but I don’t think Brad will draft either one. And I get it. There are some character/production issues with each. A guy that I like, that I think could be another Brian Branch that falls to the second is Xavier Watts. I don’t think Brad will take him though either just because we have two great safeties already. I just think Watts is sort of a forgotten player.
No way to know if he checks out before the draft. Won"t know if he fully recovers for a while.
Part A I would be fine with Jackson, Zabel or Booker in the 1st round. It may not be a flashy pick but these guys play every snap all the time and we fill that spot for 5 years. On defense you play a lot more situational football. It is very rare to find a guy like Hutch who plays nearly every snap.
He was dismissed bc he signed a zero tolerance letter as a result of the HS accusation… He really had no choice but to transfer, even if it was bogus. I’m not saying nothing happened, but it wasn’t serious enough to even have a report written. ![]()
Fair enough, it will have to be vetted for sure. But we are on the outside looking in and won’t know the results of that vetting, so it’s only educated guessing for us. And knowing what I know about Brad and Dan’s tendencies, as well as our owner’s, I’d guess he won’t be on our board. But it is a guess.
I’m beginning to get talked into that a second ‘legion of boom’-type secondary may be on the table here. If we could get a safety who can walk in here, stay on the field, rush the QB sort of like Iffy did in 2023, it might just make up for the lack of a star-studded D-line.
I really really think he’s the guy if he’s there and one of Stewart, Jackson, BC Edge aren’t. Scourton screams Detroit Lion to me. I think he’d be the starter opposite Hutch by early October when Davenport starts missing his first set of games/goes on IR.
This is the whole thing, fans keep saying this but it’s clear the Lions do not agree, his injuries are not recurring injuries the Lions seem to really like what he can bring, he showed well in his limited time on the field. While fans are all but guaranteeing he will be hurt and miss time, This staff doesn’t think so and seem to be moving forward as him being a big part of this defense. Even there draft interviews is showing this, they seem to be bringing in the smaller bendy guys to complement the crush the can guy we already have.
I think it would be really fun to have three safeties that excel in coverage. The reason I think Watts probably won’t be drafted by the Lions is that there seems to be some questions on his tackling. This seems debatable. But I don’t think its this huge negative if you need a versatile safety who can play multiple spots (which is something the Lions value). But not a pressing need with two guys who excel in coverage already.
He seems to do well up toward the LOS, but I wouldn’t call him a strong safety more of a FS. My gut is they will probably gravitate more toward a Kevin Winston type whose strength seems to be tackling and his weakness is instincts - which is almost like the opposite of Watts. Or maybe even Lathom Ransom, a clearer strong safety/box safety if he drops into day 3 and they can justify maybe picking a substitutional player like Iffy was.
But having those three safeties as instinctual ballhawks playing vs all TEs and RB in addition to deep coverage would give opposing QBs some absolute problems IMO.
Then the staff is not as good as advertised. Counting on Davenport for anything more than 100 snaps is incredibly foolish. The guy has never made it through an nfl season. After what happened last year, there should’ve been an over correction…instead we got the opposite. There has to be a plan outside of AQM and Davenport, as the former is not a starter and the latter is not dependable. If no other edges of at least potential starter quality are added then Holmes has not done his job correctly. I’m quite sure there will be competition added for Davenport. The man goes on IR by rolling out of bed.
This is why your here and not working in the nfl.
The plan is Davenport and probably a rookie to rotate. But your whole evaluation is nothing more then fans hyperbole .
Two thing you don’t understand is Brad Holmes and injuries . The dude got hurt last year because of a dirty chop to his elbow. None of his injuries are recurring , Holmes knows that and and seems to feel pretty confident in him , I’m sure we will add to it. But guys bagging on Davenport need to get over it because Holmes and staff like what he can bring. And he is a big part of there plan this year.
Smith is a pretty good player and pretty healthy yet Holmes drop him for 11 million and Kept Davenport for a fraction of that. He seems to value what Davenport can bring over Smith. Brad is a pretty smart guy he has proven that, even though I don’t completely understand it, I feel Brad knows more then me. Some if he doesn’t do what you think he is foolish. I think there is a bigger chance of fans being foolish then Brad. He is a great evaluator
Missing 28 of his last 34 games and NEVER playing an entire season is not hyperbole lol. It’s a trend. It can be nearly stated as fact at this point. Relying on him is foolish and a failure. Back up plan or two will be needed. Brad Holmes knows that. Cmon now.
Then why did he sign him and let Smith go ? And low and behold he hasn’t signed anyone else you all have been banging the table for. No he choose to go with Davenport and his guy in the draft. People like you are going to dye if he doesn’t take one in the first.
