If no more resources are put into the edge position this offseason then well 2025 will likely end up being a failure for a team that was on a championship trajectory. I have full faith that Holmes will get an edge that can start when Davenport misses time. He’s a good gm.
I saw the release of Z Smith and cheap re-sigbning of Davenport as an opportunity to upgrade over Smith, and a very nice player who can start when healthy…not a wipe hands clean ok I’m done here moment for Holmes. He’s too smart for that.
Well I can agree that there will be help not sure who or were but I’m confident also that they add a piece. But the talk about his injury and gonna be out in a 100 snaps is hyperbole. Holmes is relieving on him for quality snaps.
Me and alot of people said this about Levi and his injury was recurring but they stuck by him for 3 season and boom a full healthy year with nice prodution.

I get all that but this is year 8 or 9 for Davenport. And his availability is trending downward. Holmes has a bit of a gambler in him for sure…but I can’t see him rolling the dice at such an important position. I guess we’ll see but I’m expecting quality resources to be put into DE.
It depends. He’s definitely not through at the position, but would you consider a 4th round pick quality? Because that’s all he threw at WR in the 2021 draft despite it being our biggest need and he hit it out of the park. Obviously we were at a different point of our rebuild then, but I think Brad is no more beholden to need than he was then. It’s great when need matches up with BPA like last year, but that’s not always the case.
He’ll add someone for sure, but there’s a chance it might not be with the level of capital many on here would consider prudent.

I would be in shock if from now till April 28 the only asset thrown at DE is a 4th round pick. It’s not like a few fans on this site are the only ones who see this as a glaring need. I would be disappointed yes. I am one who thinks their first two picks should be DL. Outside of iOL it is the weakest point(s) on the roster. DE, DT, OG, WR, OT, CB, S (depth), QB (what’s up with Hooker?), LB, TE, RB is how I see the Lions needs.
I would be surprised too, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Especially if Brad loves a guy he believes he can get there. If Elijah Roberts made it to him there - as he often does on the sims - well I think he’s got a much better chance of contributing early than some of the guys drafted before him. Remember, virtually every early drafted edge over the past ten years has taken a while to hit. In that sense a 1st rounder might not help us much anyway. Verse is very much an outlier.

That’s what I said when we drafted St Brown. WR was so bad I had us doubling down on wr in the 1st 4 Rds only to have Brad wait and take only one in the 4th Rd. But Damm what a 4th rder it was .

JJ Watt missed 24 of 32 games over a 2 year span.
He had 16 sacks the following year.
Many lineman battle injuries.
The key is whether the injury reduces a player’s ability to remain athletic enough to produce… and is that injury likely to occur again. Davenport’s injuries have not been the type to reduce his explosiveness… nor likely to be recurrent.
Davenport has played substantial snaps in 5 of his 7 seasons.
If he returns to that level of play… his deal is a bargain.

Lol don’t be so sensitive, and really I just said over and over I don’t know exactly what Brad will do, but I do not find him to not be foolish.
And your the one all knowing I mean you know Davenport will be injuried, You know Brad is foolish if he doesn’t do what you think. You have him drafting for need witch he doesn’t do really.
Are you sure? Why do they give him 1 year deals that are incentive based instead of a 2-3 year deal? 1 year at $2.5 million screams, we don’t think you can play all year, but we HOPE you can. If they believed he’d be healthy and not miss games and continue to play the way he did in the limited time he was on the field last year, the would’ve given him a bigger/longer contract. I can all but guarantee the DE that gets the 2nd most snaps behind Hutch isn’t currently on the roster yet… That’s my strong belief, they won’t have a repeat of 2024 at DE.
That’s ok believe what you want. There will be another guy that gets alot of snaps. But yeah I’m very sure Davenport is going to be a big part of it.
I think the FO and staff believes it too… Otherwise, like I said, they would’ve made more of a commitment to him.
