Even Jarrad Davis is a decent pass rusher. He did have 6 sacks in 2018 rushing mostly from the A gap. He can’t do much else well. But, he could be used in passing situations as well. Just never have him cover anyone for the love of God.
That type of play you posted first is what he is praised for quite a bit in scouting reports–his ability to occupy blockers, which usually allows others to make the play on the ballcarrier.
Thanks for that breakdown of Jarrad’s play in 2020. I know the Lions wanted him in 2021 and the Jets did too for $5M, so there must be more to him than I appreciated. In any case, with zero monetary commitment to him, I’m happy he’s a training camp Lion.
In this picture, you can CLEARLY see what a difference it makes when you shave your head. I can’t for the life of me figure out why everyone is not doing it?
With the cost we paid for Davis I love the pickup. He has such good physical tools on top of a strong work ethic and high character. The mental part is where he struggles. Maybe giving him less snaps and responsibilities can make him more efficient. He has been a productive pass rushing LBer. He is also very violent playing downhill football. He seemed to over run a lot of plays while he was here, but hopefully this defensive staff can get him to settle down. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him have success this year as a pass rushing specialist at LBer and a LBer on obvious run downs, playing 15-20 snaps a game.
With the additions we made at LBer I truly don’t see one guy playing like 80% of the snaps. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Walker with the Green dot this year either considering he’s one of the leaders of the defense, rarely leaves the field, and is going on year 2 in the system.
Board and Rodriguez may be the nickel backers, Davis the pass rushing specialist/thumper, and Barnes and Anzalone play in base packages. Nobody plays more then 60% of the snaps so the green dot goes to someone who will.
I think the Jamo trade really impacted his selection. Not that they weren’t going to before, but where they took him.
That third-round pick (66) is where they probably would have taken him without the trade. But instead, they get 46 back from the Vikings and have to take him there, because they couldn’t risk waiting until 97.
