We touched on this topic in another thread (Who’s the real CC? - #30 by Davicus), but I think it would be interesting to discuss how big the gulf between the competition level is from men’s to women’s sports.
Specifically, where might you hit an equilibrium point, either where a superstar woman could really compete with men at what level a man would be a superstar in the women’s league? Or, as in that initial thread, at what level would a women’s pro team compete with a men’s team?
The point here isn’t to slam women’s sports or female athletes; the inherent differences in athletic capabilities is the whole point of having separate leagues. I just think it’s interesting to look at this across sports.
The basketball example might be one where there’s the greatest disparity. I think WNBA all-stars would struggle against decent boys prep teams.
Something like golf seems like it would be comparatively pretty close (assuming everyone plays from the same tees). I’m not an expert, but a good LPGA pro seems like she could probably hold her own against some dudes on the developmental tours. Basically, the crossover point seems like it would be where her consistency would overcome their longer drives.
How would that hold up in other sports, like tennis, volleyball, baseball/softball, etc.?
