Offensive Tackles in the Draft

If he starts to fall into that 10 area, I think we should look seriously into making a move. I’m hoping he’ll have a fairly middling process, but part of that would include some uninspiring length numbers, but 33 and a half is a net neutral imo.

Yeah, that’s the best way to view football narratives in the early offseason. This is about fun and extreme dreams, not life or death, with zero control. Maybe joy ride and fly? Football used to hurt me too much…

The male version of “broad where a broad should be broad”. Size matters…

He was average for most of the season until he got exposed by the actual good defenses they played, I will give him that. But I always preferred him at guard, he could be a real star in there.

From a tweet: (I typically just post the verbiage now as the tweets no longer embed, unless there’s a video)

Will Campbell said he tore a ligament in his knee this season. He wasn’t 100% for the playoffs but said it’s not excuse.

That would certainly hurt a guy like him. His athleticism is probably his best trait, without it there’s no way he could overcome his length limitations.

Given his body I think hitting the threshold will be viewed as a net positive.

Yeah, maybe so. At the very least it won’t be dragging him down any, which is what I hoped the process would do to him. What needed to happen, if there was any chance of him falling.

There goes that plan

Where’s Gennings Dunker on your list?

For me he is 100% a guard.

I admit I am lower on him than most, and I can also admit he’s a very good run blocker. But for as good as he is in the run game, he’s equally as bad in the pass game. Any team that keeps him outside is trying to get their QB killed. His feet are just so heavy, he plays too high, he’s stiff, his footwork is clunky af and he doesn’t seem to be able to gain any distance with his stride. Like his legs just won’t go far enough apart. His hands are all over the place, his chest is exposed too frequently, and his balance is really poor.

I realize he’s a guy who’s easy to like with the ginger mullet and nasty play attitude, but if you’re drafting him to be anything other than a guard, you’re gonna be disappointed imo. And if you’re drafting a guard from Iowa, I’d MUCH rather have Beau Stephens. That guy is gonna be a ten-year starter in the league. I’d rather have Logan Jones too.

And if you want a nasty guy with a dirtbag look, Keylan Rutledge is a better option. He wants to hurt people.

There’s a pretty big gap before my next tackle, Dametrious Crownover out of A&M. He’s a mammoth like Proctor with some of the same issues. Not as explosive though.

Wow - you usually don’t come across a guy whos talked about at both tackle and center. This Fano guy could really fit us.

What do you mean: Bad motor? Undisciplined? Lazy? Me first? Turd? All of the above? I’m just wondering whether the flaws are fixable..

No, he’s just not built like we seem to like them built. More of a lithe, athletic build than a road grader. Nothing against the way he plays or anything like that

So if he sticks at tackle he’ll have short arms for the position. Doable - and more so nowadays - but something that shows up on his tape pretty regularly.

But that same length would be league average at center.

He’s pretty clearly got the mind to play center. Rarely fooled, quick processing in play, and his technique is top notch. You worry about the phone booth power, but at center you can mitigate that somewhat with help. There are a lot of smallish centers, he wouldn’t even be below average there.

He also recovers really well. I heard his balance called Kamara-esque and I like it, his core strength is somewhat lacking and it often looks like he’s about to get put on his ass, only to miraculously stay with the rep and often get completely reset. He’s very difficult to fully knock over. And he’s a dog who fights with everything he’s got.

Finally he’s an insanely smooth athlete, getting to the second level and opening running lanes on the move will be no problem.

Fano is the way to go but I think he’ll be gone by 17.

He’s been falling of late. His 2025 wasn’t nearly as good as his 2024, and he really struggled against Bailey and Height of TT. I’m not reading too much into it (I’m more concerned that his run game tape went from awesome to below average), but you know how the draft goes. Little movements up or down really impact the top of the draft.
