The defense was not good.
It ranked well in yardage but really fell off through the season. Many players quit on both offense & defense.
To answer your question it still goes back to leadership.
The interim coach had no power or say over the offense.
Rodgers basically ran that and would point fingers at others when something didnāt go right.
That team has a lot of talent. The OC and DC donāt have to be geniusā. They just need a leader to pull them all together.
There were a surprising number of mistakes and general lack of awareness by players on both sides of the ball. From a thousand miles away, it just seemed like they were unprepared and lacked communication throughout. Basically, Saleh was similar to Mayo in that regard. Good dudes with solid football knowledge, but not OCD enough to be HC.
Yep!
Saleh was castrated when Rodgers arrived.
He had to bend the rules and dance around Rodgers comments.
How can your QB miss a mini-camp because he has a prior commitment?
Saleh didnāt feel like he could reprimand his QB.
Rodgers showed no respect for Saleh in public, I canāt imagine it was any better in the building.
But the D played well is my point, giving up less than 17 points a game. They were 2-3 when Saleh was escorted out of the building by the director of security losing one of those games 10-9. Their O was playing terrible which meant that the D, well, they got more snaps as a result. So even while everything you say is true it is also true that despite that Saleh had one of the better Dās. The dysfunction was on the O, still is, the D knew they could play, the O never did. Again, the part that needs the biggest turnaround is the O, thus my point.
I heard that Saleh wanted to keep Darnold and didnāt want to draft Wilson. Kind of went south from there. The defense was a top unit for a lot of his tenure. They went all in on Rodgers and we all know how that played out.
I think that was probably their original plan, honestly, but a lot of the good candidates donāt want to coach for that travesty of an owner. AG is different because of his history there, one of the few ātopā candidates who wants the job. Kinda of like Demeco when he went back to the Texans.
