LaPorta looking like a bluff & Mitchell out is significant but questionable Dotson, Noteboom, & Fuller vs surging Hutch, Paschal, Romeo & returning Alim , CJGJ, & Jamo seems more important than Houston. BJ/JG got enough out of the depth post-Hock to keep the TE downgrade from looking like a a death blow to me.It absolutely helps, but no asterix/asterisks/asterixatives for you, Detroit !
Bum-winged Higbee & 2nd yr fireplug Kyren vs blitzmania ? Fan-effing-tastic.
Tell me a story about JG vs pressure or how LAR nearly beat The Ravens so I can go to my happy place.
Donāt forget that when @Phunnypharm talks about medical stuff, heās not just throwing shit against the wall. He is trained in that area. So he will pick up on details that we miss or donāt understand.
One thing that I donāt necessarily agree with is that itās being implied that Houstonās success was entirely bend related. I donāt necessarily agree. In fact what I found to be most unique about him was how creative he was with pace. Kind of like a junk ball pitcher.
Houston would vary his rush tempo greatly and often do so within the same rep. That has to completely f with Tackles and their drops. Tackles are creatures of routine when protecting. Every aspect of Houston is just pure funk.
And part of that is that thereās some inherent patience in his pass rush plan. With so many smaller edges itās full throttle all the time.
In some ways James Houston rushes the passer like LeVeon Bell ran the football.
Houston had bend. Houston had ājunk ballā tempo. But there was something else Houston had that gave blockers fitsā¦power. He literally ran thru the tackles chest to get one of his sacks against the Bears.
I agree. Power and the length to utilize it. To stick to the baseball analogy. He wasnāt just a hitter with power but a hitter who could get to the power in games.
agreed⦠he has a way of utilizing his leverage⦠gets the OT maybe over setting for the outside rush⦠and then uses his low center of gravity to get under him and drive him back.
I didnāt think he was a āone trick ponyā last year⦠and I am confident he will will be able create trouble for opposing OLs when he comes back.
I really hope he gets that opportunity. Per my tastes his 2022 season was the most fun Iāve ever had watching a Lions defender bc itās so damn unconventional and done with so much pizzazz. And itās not showboating. The pizzazz is contained within his actual game.
But the thing is the threat that he can bend the edge. Houston has or had a skill that is very unique, and it is the kryptonite for OTs. They overset to stop him from getting around. They get a hand to the chest or an arm under and they are off balance and helpless. This only happens because of the fear of the one elite skill that Houston has. And I hope he still has it next year
But simply bending the arch is not his only tool. His pass rush bag is actually quite a bit diverse than youād expect out of such an undersized pass rusher.
Donāt agree with the only. His length for being so low to the ground is very rare. He does things with pacing that few rushers do. IMO there is a lot more there there than you are implying.
I did not say it was his only skill. I said it was his only elite skill and because of that elite skill it allows him to apply his other skills. When the tackle oversets it allows him to bull rush and cross his face.
I compare it to Tyreek and his speed. The DB has one thing in mind and that is donāt let him get behind you. It allows Tyreek to run crossing patterns underneath all day long. He still has to run the route and catch the ball. If you donāt respect that one elite skill he takes one over the top to the house. If Tyreek ran a 4.6 he might not even be in the NFL.
