Official injury report: Houston out

The “anxious anticipation” doesn’t change the fact that Houston was obviously not physically ready just 5 days ago.

How does our compare against Rams designation?

They seem to have more key members in rough
Shape then we do but wanted thoughts from Den.

Also disappointed on Houston and Mitchell

As others have said, ready-to-practice-fully and ready-to-be-better-than-the-alternative are two very different things. It’s not REALLY so shocking that a guy who broke his ankle and relies on ankle flexibility for his pass-rushing effectiveness isn’t ready to offer much, not even as much as the much-maligned Charles Harris.

I don’t mind this move overall. If/when the Lions win we have to think about the next game.

I would rather be cautious with Houston versus rushing him back early only to be ineffective or get hurt again.

Let Houston keep getting reps and hopefully he can go against possibly Dallas or home V Green Bay.

I like that Romeo Okwara is coming on and maybe Julian has a little juice for a game?

He’s evidently not fully healthy, if he was he wouldn’t be getting ruled out two days before the game. Full practice doesn’t mean full health. The window was presumably opened because the injury has healed, but he might not have full mobility or strength back yet, and practicing is a way to test that. If he didn’t have burst or his ability to get really low then he’s not much use out there.

With Jacobs going on IR there is an open roster spot that Houston could take, so unless there’s something nefarious going on it’s a simple case of Houston being unable to go at the level required for a playoff game.

He was released with a severe injury after a settlement, I don’t think he’s medically able to play.

Bingo-bango-bungo. Sunday evening is JO time, ah, er, you know what I mean…

Eh, I’ve been saying for weeks that Houston is likely done for the year for the reasons a few have already mentioned in this thread.

The bigger story to me is Mitchell being out. Even if LaPorta plays, he’s likely to be far from 100% and with Wright also nicked up, it’s a bit mind boggling that the Lions didn’t try to sign a TE in an offense where TE is so key. Maybe LaPorta is closer to 100% than I think but that would be surprising/shocking.

I can’t think of a more bendy ankle than a broken one. Just saying.

While he was listed as “out,” I do not think this is the final designation. Dan said something along the lines of “let’s see how he feels tomorrow, that’s important” in his press conference. Maybe I am wrong and today’s designations are legally binding.

I’d assume Firkser would be called up from the PS

I don’t care what ya say thats funny right there. On a more serious note how bendy is it with screws and a plate holding it together?

His repair was actually done above the ankle….
and involved the syndesmosis joint between the tibia and fibula.

The fracture was to his fibula, and was fixed with a plate, screws, and the “tightrope” implant used to fix some high ankle sprains (Brock Bowers, Tua, Pollard, Hurts all had tightrope procedure ). This area of the lower leg doesn’t have much impact on ankle flexion.

I also think it is worth noting that he was able to get under OTs in part because he is significantly shorter than them.
He has natural leverage at 6’0” tall… and has freakishly long arms at 34.5 inches.

That description makes it sound more promising that he should be able to return to 100% next year.

Serious question…I’m not doubting you but where did you find this info? I’ve never seen such details from a player surgery before.

Considering AG had Houston playing in the 2nd half of preseason games and had changed his position this year, I’m not convinced he has much of any chance of getting put on the active roster at his original position at this time.

Thx for sharing. Doesn’t sound fun.
