Ojabo injury confirmed as Achilles tear

FYI…

Ojabo Injury

Feel bad for him. Here’s hoping to a full and speedy recovery. Hopefully, he doesn’t drop too far, for his sake.

Yeah, tough break. There are some reports out there that it shouldn’t cause him to drop too far since no one was really expecting year one production from him anyway.

Wow, that’s brutal. He won’t play at all in 2022. If I’m Brad Holmes I’d take him in round 5 though. It might turn out terribly, but you might hit a home run.

He’s going to drop big time IMO.

Oh damn, that poor kid. At least he knows he’ll get terrific care between UM and whichever team drafts him. That’s probably not much consolation for him right now though.

If he is there in round 3 I would take him. Too much potential to drop further. I expect picks from rounds 1 & 2 to be starters year 1.

I don’t think he makes it out of round two. Too much potential, for an injury everyone expects him to make a full recovery from, to allow him to drop further.

Don’t know how you don’t select him if he was sitting there top of round 3.

Right. That guy last year, I forget his name, the edge from Vandy tore his achilles in the lead up to the draft and still got drafted in the 2nd round by the Jets. And he wasn’t nearly the prospect Ojabo is.

Somebody really good is going to take him late in round 1, sit him, and get a great player in 2023.

Honestly, if he is there at 32, I’d be all over the Lions taking him.

Dayo Odeyingbo . Took 9 months to recover.

He’s noted later in the following article:

Round five?!?! I think the question revolves more around whether he makes it out of round two. The Lions took Julian Okwara at the top of round 3 as a developmental edge rusher. I doubt this guy makes it that far. He might be a redshirt round two target for some teams looking to get long term value

You could be right. I just know achilles tears are a brutal injury. It’s like 50/50 if players come back from them. Hope he comes back strong. I have the same hope for Okudah and Romeo, but many don’t come back strong from that injury.

Look, here’s how I view it:

  1. Lions are not making the playoffs this year. It isn’t happening.

  2. Lions have the 32nd and 34th pick. If he’s there at 32, you can take him and there is like a 99% chance you still get the guy you want at 34. Take him for 2023.

I think the medical treatment has improved tremendously on those injuries to the point it’s much more probable to fully recover now.

I will add, the Lions having two guys coming off the same type injury will influence their view. If they’re seeing great recovers from their own guys, gives them confidence to take him sooner.

And Ojabo is very young, so usually that helps with recovery. Wish him well.

Achilles injuries are usually about 50-50. I had huge hopes for Mikel Leshoure but tearing his achilles ruined his career. Then you have guys like Cam Akers who recover and recover quickly. I hope he can recover.

Yeah he was considered raw and a bit of a project but 7-9 months will just be trying to get back to where he was. He’ll fall to round 3 or 4 is my guess
