One man’s projection of defensive depth chart

Damn no love for jarred Davis!

I think Davis makes team and possibly starts.

Im guessing that Houston plays LB.

I’m leaving him at OLB/Edge, too.

The only issue I have with the depth charts above is that aside from a heavy defense on goal line or 4th and 1, you will never see 3 off ball linebackers on the field.

No Jashon Cornell sighting, I’m crushed.

Didn’t see the entire list on my phone.

I think Malcolm Rodriguez makes the team and starts by mid-season at the latest over Analzone.

I also think UFA Demetrius Taylor will take Michael Brocker’s roster spot coming out of training camp.

One thing is for sure, the depth is much improved on the D-line.

There’s no way Brockers doesn’t make the team. He’s too much a part of what the front office wants in a football player. He has 4 mil guaranteed, too, so I fully expect him out there. If we were to scratch someone from the roster to make room for Demetrius, it’d have to be Penisini, IMO.

I wonder whether Davis, if placed in the same role as Houston, would produce. The one year Davis had 6 sacks and wasn’t a bad pass rusher.

These are really bold takes. You think Malcolm Rodriguez takes over the green dot duties without anzalone having an injury. AND you think d Taylor gets Brockers who’s a 8million dollar cap hit knocked off?

I like the cahones.

That’s kind of dangerous to not have a NT if McNeil were to go down but I see it the same way. Hopefully Brockers gets way better because his play has made his extension a huge disappointment.

He was never a bad rusher. I have no idea how Patricia managed to get the worst out of him. Fooling around with his playing weight and responsibilities. Just a shame all around

My views are of course projections.

If Brockers contributes what he did last year–apparently injures at least some of the time–I think the Lions are better served giving the playing time to someone who will be here in 2023. If/when they cut him in training camp, the Lions have near $6M dead money and save $3M. Brockers will be gone in 2023, do you agree? The Lions save $10M when he’s cut in 2023. UDFA Demetrius Taylor will have to flash in training camp to bump Brockers. Will he?

IMO, Brockers was important to help Dan and Friends set the culture in 2022. With the culture solidified far more quickly than I every thought could happen and with guys like Hutch and Paschal ready to carry that torch, Brocker is expendable unless shows that he can bring the goods early and often in training camp.

And I agree with SimtheLionFan, Penisini is just about a lock for the roster because he doesn’t have any real competition to threaten his spot as a plug in the middle.

Couple thoughts…

It’s Alim’s spot in the middle. Penisini is a backup. I have him making the team, I was just suggesting that if we needed to make room for the UDFA, it would come at Penisini’s expense rather than Brockers…

Brockers is that culture guy for sure. And I think the contract virtually assures he’ll be here this year. (And gone next year, yes!)

Yea, in 2018, he had 6 sacks and we sent him on A gap blitzes quite often and it was effective. Heck, he even knocked Aaron Rodgers out cold.

Not sure why we stopped using him to rush the passer in 2019 and 2020.
