One thing after another

Well my wife took her suv to get looked at. And it wasn’t great news. She needs a new transmission. Under 90k miles 3 year old vehicle. I swear her and I can’t get a break. Im over stressed and our anniversary is Wednesday we’re heading to the island Thursday. Unfortunately we only have one vehicle right now. Do we take a chance driving that far?

Just out of curiosity, what make and model?

I’ve reached the point where I won’t buy anything but a Toyota.

Its a Ford Explorer.

Is it not under warranty? Edit, you need it for Wednesday

That sucks, my man. Life is like that though, when things are going rough, they tend to stay rough for a while sometimes. Then things get better and tend to stay better for a while.

I remember I had an old Mustang and I had three blowouts in one week. One of them completely turned me around on the expressway. So I had to ride my bike into work… And you guessed it… I blew out a tire and had to walk that bike back about 3 miles. Just keep your head up. Things will get better. It’s always darkest before the dawn is a true statement.

They told us to many miles. We need this vacation. Were probably going to rent a car

I used to have a saying, don’t let other people’s bad day ruin my day. It’s worked pretty well. Also, when you leave for that vacation Marty don’t think about any problems in the background. You’re there to rest and relax with your wife and celebrate your time together. Trust me, there’s always somebody in a worse situation out there. Enjoy your time and the troubles will be there when you get back and you can work on knocking those out.

I would say if you have 1 car and it’s reliable, I wouldn’t worry about taking it.

That sucks Marty. I’ve rented vehicles before for long drives—mainly to save miles on my car. Worked out great. Just double check that if the rental car breaks down, they’ll get another rental car out to you.

Wrong or right, my only advice is giving it to the Lord…. Peace in all seasons of life…. The suckie ones as well as the good ones…

Did you get the replacement info from a ford dealer or an independent? Might be worth a second opinion if the thing is still drivable.

Prayers that things ease up soon.

Hi Marty,

Sorry to hear this man. I hope things turn around soon for you. I have also done the rental car thing for longer trips to save miles on my vehicle like Wolverine stated. Nobody knows your financial situation, but if you can afford it, take it. You sound like you need it and we all know stress uncontrolled is nothing but bad news. Enjoy your special time with your wife. I know it’s bad timing but Happy Early Anniversary.

Thinking of you Den brother!!

If it’s a decent vehicle then drive it. What is it a 3-4 hour trip?
We have a 2014 Durango with 220K miles we still drive back to PA from TN (13 hours)
As long as you keep the maintenance up on it you should have no problem
Always a chance something breaks, it’s mechanical, but rental vs your car, I would just drive your own

Whoa man - things will turn around. I pray you seek a qualified professional or trusted close family/friend to talk with. Seriously, no matter how bad it is right now, it’s NOT worth your life. Think of the folks that love you most.

Prayers up.

I’m a horrible former Michigander. I’ve only ever bought Hondas or Lexuses.

The next car I buy will probably be a Hyundai.

Been married 48 years. Sometimes life has been really hard sometimes it has been amazing. When it is hard I focus on my number one responsibility in this life - taking care of my wife. As long as she is breathing I have responsibility here. I strongly believe there is a God and He loves us all. I lean on Him while taking care of her. I pray you have some great days ahead.

That’s what they used to be called.

Had two Ford products. Mercury Mariner was good; Lincoln MKZ hybrid, not so good. The latter had a computer problem no one could seem to solve.
