Dan Campbell doesn’t care: Campbell’s statement in his three seasons in Detroit is taking risks on fourth down and on two-point attempts to win the game. Campbell even called a play to throw the ball to an offensive lineman in the final minute to win a game, which resulted in controversy regarding Taylor Decker reporting as eligible or not. The penalty put Detroit back on the Cowboys’ 7-yard line, and Campbell still went for two! No matter the situation, Campbell is going to go for the win and put a defense on its heels – even if he has to go for two three different times to win a game. The strategy has worked for the Lions before, but it just didn’t this week.
So, Dan Campbell is the honey badger of head coaches:
Dan Campbell was true to his words. He told his players what they were going to do before the start of the dirve. That’s what we SHOULD be learning about Dan. Forget the 2nd attempt and 3rd attempt. It’s about breathing life and confidence into his team. It’s not about gambling or aggressiveness. It’s about asserting one’s will and having the confidence in the team to be able to do it.
He went to overtime with Seattle earlier in the season and perhaps he should have gone for it then…
At this point in the season, you can save a lot of snaps for your men if you can win OR lose the game in regulation. That’s a good thing to do. Especially when the Division is already locked up and you need to be fresh for the playoffs.
I get the sense that after the Refs stole that first try, he was tilting at that point as he barely got his headset on before the 2nd snap/try.
I think we were all pissed and wanted to cram it down the cowboys throats.
So to the Vikings game. It’s a tough thing because if you rest your starters, maybe you heal some things and prevent some injuries for the 1st round of the playoffs, but your in sync team may fall out of sync and be rusty.
No easy decision here. I can see the QB and WRs wanting to play to stay in rhythm. I could see the OL and RBs wanting to rest as they get so banged up…
