Humility is an awesome thing

When I first joined the military, I had trauma for a dentist who I ended up punching and walking out at ten… drunk and tore the side of my gums up…

The major knocked me out … and slowly I was able to downgrade to a pill….

I hate the dentist chair…. You do you brother!!

It’s not too bad @Martymcfly2017 , far better than getting cavities worked on, just got to put a wad of gauze in your mouth until it quits bleeding-if it does.

Gotta be careful what you eat, especially right away. I made the moronic decision to stuff a few buffalo flavored pretzel twists into my mouth and one went straight into the socket where the upper molar was. Yeeowww! That got my attention fast!!

Been through fillings, crowns, wisdom teeth pulled and a couple root canals. First recommendation is to take some Advil or similar pain medication about 30 minutes before the appt.

I just had a premolar pulled about 3 weeks ago. Was a tooth I had a crown on. Apparently it became loose and I didn’t know. Had some funky bacteria in there so I had to have it pulled. Procedure was fine. But the pulling and the noises are awful. Was sore for like 2-3 days.

Dentist here. The first two days are crucial. If you smoke: dont! You want the clot to establish and scab over. If you pull the clot you can get a dry socket and it will suck for you. No straining or heavy lifting. Nothing carbonated, no straws. Theres a wide spectrum when it comes to dental extractions. If you have pre existing bone loss on the tooth and they have a stable portion of tooth to torque against it should be straightforward. If they have to section the tooth or remove bone healing will take a bit longer.

If youre nervous, dont listen to anyone else. Sedation is the way to go. You shouldnt even remember the extraction. Just make sure to really baby the socket for those first 2-3 days and youll be fine. Im sure they will medicate you accordingly afterward. Anyway man, sedation will make it ten times easier for you if youre nervous at all. Its absolutely worth it. DM me if you have any questions.

Absolutely 0 shame in being knocked out. I have a kid with terrible anxiety related to dentist. So I get it.

On a completely different note:

Had a test for bladder cancer once, afterwards I said “Never again”. Fu@$ that…you want to do that test again? Knock me out first.:rofl:

Do you perform same day crowns?

I have only had 1 crown, and my dentist ground the tooth in the AM and did a 3D scan of the remaining tooth.

I went hime for a few hours while they milled the ceramic crown from the 3D model, and then returned after lunch time to have it placed.

It was pretty slick and I haven’t had any issues with it at all. It also looks identical to my other teeth.

Unfortunately, my dentist retired this past winter, and the dentist who bought his practice doesn’t seem to have that capability.

yeah its pretty handy, but having a cad machine in office is a bit of s headache for the dentist to be honest, and nothing beats a good lab made crown. The wait and the temp crown is annoying though, I know
