I am looking at your better/worse/equal list and it’s crap.

You are making statements about guys after 2 games.

CAM SUTTON IS BETTER THEN REED? The same Cam Sutton who people trashed and complained about his entire tenure in Detroit?

Iffy is better then Abney? The dude who didn’t play for 5 weeks because he jammed his pinky finger?

CJGJ is better then McCreary? Dude played how many games for us and how many teams has he been on since?

Jacobs is better then Rock? Where is jacobs? What team did he play for after he left Detroit?

Anzalone is better then White? I think anyone outside Detroit would have a hard time with that statement. Again, I am not a huge White fan. I wanted him in the draft when he came out but he is no longer in Tampa and other teams because he isn’t good at all in coverage and he struggles like Jarad Davis did but he is even more athletic then Davis was. We just paid our All-Pro LB. We are not gonna have 3 borderline all pro/pro bowl LBs on this team unless they are drafted and coached up. White today is better then Anzalone today.

Wonnum is better then Comisky. In fact when NFL guys were talking me about Wonnum they literally said “he is a better comminsky and they only need someone to take pressure off Hutch and he will do that just fine”

The roster is different because our elite draft picks hit. They hit at a historic rate. This last draft was solid. Why not wait and see how the season goes…….come back when the lions go 9-8 with a last place schedule and post this thread now. not when its week 2. We are 1-1 and we just played a top 3 team, with the number 1 passing and mobile qb in the league, in their inaugural game in their brand new stadium on National TV. This is a 12 win team minimum. Once in the playoffs anyone can win.

Just because players were on the team In 2023, doesn’t mean we didn’t get better…weird stance my man.

Jack Campbell, Aiden Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, Gibbs, have all gotten significantly better since then. The best player that we’ve let go since then is an RB2. Rags retired…

If our two safeties didn’t have significant injuries…this team is absolutely loaded and better than that 2023 team.

Yeah, the ‘23 team was much better up and down than the ‘26 team. A handful of guys have improved but that doesn’t offset the front line starters and depth guys they’ve lost

eg, Gibbs is better but Gibbs + Pacheco (?) not better than Montgomery + Gibbs. Heck, our 3rd stringer that year might have been better than our second stringer now

To me this isn’t really controversial. Even more curious is the people who get offended by this take. @DBend144 has done a decent head to head. Don’t agree with him completely but it is directionally correct

You could say that there are 5 openings on defense for legit upgrades. 2 because of our safeties being severely injured. Arnold and Rake our 1st & 2nd round CBs both busts…

It looks like to me that this roster didn’t have many openings for an upgrade at their starting positions. And those that had openings…all had at least one 1st or 2nd invested there the last 3 years.

I’m not surprised only 3 starters have been drafted since 2024. Our roster was loaded.

We are better at WR. Jamo was barely a contributor in 2023. Now he and Ra form one of the best 3 Duos in the league.

We aren’t worse at TE or QB. I would argue better at both, but for a fact not worse

Line is worse. But we’ve invested a 1st, 2nd, and multiple day 3 picks here. Signed or traded for our entire depth guys who have significant time starting. Everything possible has been done here to get back to having a good OLine. Depth is better here for sure.

DLine is better and deeper.

LBs are better and deeper.

Again we are without our 2 elite safeties due to bad luck. But as good as that 2023 team was…our corners weren’t better.

This team is at least as good as the 2023 team. Problem is, now you and everyone else has expectations. And with those in sports can only lead to disappointment. Which I think is ridiculous coming from Lions fans. We have experienced the worse of the worst. Now everyone sounds like spoiled brats. Complaining about a team that’s worst season since 2022 we still won 9 games. We have one of the best offenses to watch in the entire league.

I know how it used to be. So should everyone else…this is bliss compared what I went through my first 30 years as a Lions fan.

Like who really thought we were beating the Bills last night? If you thought that and are now disappointed, then you probably had us going undefeated. Which then begs the question, how are you complaining if you thought we were that good?

You go by production - which I know you prefer - and we are not better at WR.

I do agree though that it is better to compare by position groups. Defensive front 7 is better. Defensive backfield much worse - it doesn’t matter the why. Offensive line much worse. Running backs worse. WR and TE about the same, I wouldn’t go to war over them

Point being, offensive line and defensive backfield so much worse that marginal improvements in other spots don’t overcome it. If nothing else, we’ve lost three All Pros and replaced them with one.

And I still don’t understand why people take this is a slap at the current team.

I wrote in a different thread that the Bills will be the toughest team the Lions face all year. That has nothing to do with the quality of this year’s team - which I also think is pretty good.

i think a lot of the depth may be better. But the starters are worse than 2023.

WR3 is worse Teslaa isnt getting any separation. Yes Reynolds dropped 2 key passes but all year he was the safety net when everyone else was covered.

LG is an issue. GG at guard had streaks of games graded as a top 10 guard.

the 5dbs are worse. branch will be good but will he be explosive at all this year? And i doubt Kerby ever plays again.

LB3 anzalone wasnt elite but hes better than White and Rodrego.

DL has more depth sure.

But still DE opposite of Aiden is this BIGGEST issue still after 5 years.

Moore has 0 stats. Hassanin hasnt played a game.

Wunnom and Lacy are space fillers that are supposed to set the edge. They havent

Can someone, anyone explain to me the rationale for not having Abney active last night? Sure, he’s going to have some growing pains as a rookie, but he needs playing time. It’s not like we’re loaded in the secondary with talent. Not being a smart ass, genuinely curious if anyone read or seen anything on why he was inactive. My only thought is it’s because Izien was back, but even then, pretty risky given first game back from a soft tissue injury.

Guess it’s a moot point if Maddox misses significant time because Izien will be used as a back-up at Safety I’d imagine behind Clark and Harper.

Only thing I can think of is they look at Rock in a more positive light than we do. Or they wanted the experience given the limited/no reps leading into the game. At this point, play the youngsters and see what you have. To your point, can’t be worse than what we have in Rock. Not sure about Izien yet and what he is in the slot as opposed to Abney.

Run Whiteside out there too. He stinks but at least he’s physically capable.

Rock is the slowest starting corner in the NFL. Memory serves me correctly I thought he going to transition to safety when we signed him. I’d give that a shot in place of Maddox

I get that, we were never a good match up with the Bills and we are not a good enough team to compete with high power teams, it is totally Brad Holmes is the reason we don’t get no better. Brad is a decent Drafter and had a couple really good drafts that kinda went to his head, the guy has been not near as good and has been terrible at finishing his roster or getting us over the hump, he really hasn’t even tried. My problem is Brad really is not good at evaluation of his team and players, he is a draft guy only and is terrible at evaluating certain positions. I’m mean Brad should possibly be fired for this alone.

It’s interesting you say this. He isn’t a decent drafter. He is a good drafter. He isn’t an okay GM. He is a very good GM. You post a video where Dave Birkett is viewed as a G, the actual fallout from that interaction is that in NFL and sports media circles Birkett looked like an asshat.
