You have Howe and Gretzky and then everyone else kind of. I mean who would you put above those 2? Maybe Bobby Orr and Lemieux?
And letās be clear I am not sure how anyone could come in above those 2.
Gretzky is the undisputed 1. Anyone who doesnāt have Wayne 1, I stop there. Orr, Howe, and Mario usually fight for 2, 3, and 4.

Mario was pretty close to Wayne I thinkā¦ Health problems and injuries prevented him from even more impressive numbers.
Mario had 1723 points but in only 915 gamesā¦ Crazy how few games he played. Wayne played like 600 more games.

Not as a playmaker he wasnāt. Mario was special and had the wow factor with his long reach and he could humiliate people with that. But could he set up plays and gets assists like Wayne? No he couldnāt. I personally wouldnāt have him in my 2 position. Lots of people have injury stories too. Including Bobby Orr and his knees. Hell Gretzky had a terrible back injury from a cheap-shot by Gary Suter that he never fully healed from. The Pens fans are always pushing this Lemieux stuff but Iām not buying it. And what kind of dumbass smokes cigarettes during his playing career?
I saw them play together on Team Canada and it was obvious who the playmaker was.

Wayne was the best play maker everā¦but Mario is still second all time in assists per game. Mario probably is the all time goals leader if he doesnāt miss several seasons in his prime.
Hereās the cheap shot on Wayneā¦ He was never the same after this. Battled chronic back issues the rest of his career.

Mario was great no doubt but I might even think about voting McDavid for 2nd best playmaker ever. That guy is really good. He turned Zach Hyman into a 50 goal guy. Thatās quite amazing.

Hereās the stats from the 87 Canada Cup. This ended any talk of who the greatest playmaker in hockey was. If youāre not convinced by Gretzky having more assists than anyone else has total points.
