That’s realistically the only Gretzky career record that can be broken. Assists, Points, and all of his single season records are unbreakable at the moment.
I don’t know that he can get to 1000. Probably not. He would have to play at least 3 or 4 more years. Probably ends up 900 something. Hell of a lot of goals. Anytime you beat Gretzky that’s something to be proud of.

His slapper was crazy accurate and pretty good. He didn’t really have a wrist shot to talk about.

92 is the single season mark. Auston Matthews had 69. That’s a lot. But still well short of 92. It’s just not going to happen.
Gretzky could lobby the NHL to include the 43 goals he scored as a 17 year old for the Oilers. The Oilers were in the WHA at that time and Gretzky played for them because he wasn’t old enough to play in the NHL. 3 goals with the Indianapolis Racers as well. Gordie Howe tried to get his WHA stats included but never had any luck.

Yeah, it was possible back in those days. 69 is the modern era high mark.
