way back before OZZY was famous and lived at home, everybody hated him, didn’t understand him or what he was doing, they threw rotten food at him, bullied him and made his life hell there, It wasn’t until he was in Black Sabbath that his music career kicked off in the US—the rest as we say, is history.
The “bat” incident happened behind the curtains of a theater when the band was near getting up on stage, everyone knew about the bat stunt-the thought it would be cool for frontman Ozzy to bite the head off a rubber bat with fake blood and everything…but somebody switched the rubber bat with a real one, and when Ozzy bit it —I heard he had to go have his stomach pumped out and get painful rabies shots at a clinic.
Saw him in Detroit. Some little band called Metallica opened up for him. All of his guitarist were huge influences when I played.
mmm yeah little Metallica Band-that had over 100,000 screaming fans over in Russia while doing the Master Of Puppets tour…
Yea this was killem all or Ride the lightning tour. Can’t remember which one.
Kill Em All -because unknown to the band-who kept playing, there were fans getting severely injured by the Russian military that didn’t understand it was just a concert and was beating the hell out of people with clubs and gun stocks.
Yea I think it was the ride the lightning tour that opened for Ozzy.
I’m at a P-Funk show currently. George Clinton is 84 so I’ll just get my RIP to a legend out of the way.
I googled it and Metallica opened for Ozzy during the Master of Puppets tour. I was pretty sure it wasn’t Kill Em All. They were a pretty underground metal band at that time with no radio or MTV play. I considered myself an early Metallica adopter and my dad bought me Ride the Lightning for Christmas, and he had trouble finding it. He had to drive pretty far for it.
He refused to get me this t-shirt I wanted though. This baby is a classic.
Any show before the sellout Black Album would be a winner for me. I know everyone likes it, I really do not like it. I considered returning the CD to the store.
I like the VaTech Enter Sandman entrances. Kind of want to be there for one tbh.
Yea the first 3 albums to me are what i think of when i think of Metallica. The newer stuff is ok but not as good imo. You’re right it was Ozzy’s Ultimate Sin tour and Metallica’s Master of Puppets tour. Opening for Ozzy gave them a big boost in popularity.
Some info on the Kill Em All tour from Wikipedia.
In late July 1983, Metallica embarked on the two-month Kill 'Em All for One tour with British co-headliners Raven. The tour name melded the titles of the albums the two bands were promoting: Metallica’s Kill 'Em All and Raven’s All for One, both released on Megaforce. The two groups met in Zazula’s home two days before the tour began and traveled in the same vehicle throughout the tour with five roadies and sound engineer Whitaker. The tour was set to conclude with three shows in San Francisco, thus Hetfield painted “No Life 'til Frisco” on the Winnebago tour bus. The tour had a few poorly attended gigs, such as a performance at the Cheers club in Babylon, New York, attended by some 50 people.
