Penei Sewell's actual contract numbers

Sewell

A legit $28M/yr, after the Lions picked up his 5th year option for $19M.

Nothing is backloaded as he’s due $22M in his final year.

Also interestingly, his 2024 cap hit only increased by $500K.

Big numbers, but he’s under contract through 2029. Big deal.

With St. Brown and Sewell both getting extensions this is the gif of the day to use… after we finally won a game in 2021 after being 0 and 10 here the rookies are…excited.

Happy Sport GIF by Detroit Lions

These 2 changed everything in that 2021 draft.

There’s a reason they signed them the same day

It’s a statement

It’ll also be a storyline at the draft tomorrow. Holmes has crushed the drafts and these were the first cornerstones. Guaranteed both of them will announce picks this weekend.

Detroit going to go wild when they come on stage .

Between this and st browns deal.
And even when Goff gets close to 50m aav.

Lions still have plenty of wiggle room!

So for all those worried about going forward?

2025 estimates (with goff extension)
34 players signed with OVER 65M!! Im space!

And yes i know the chart says 28 player for 2025 but that’s before the rookie were about to add this weekend

For those who believe in windows, Sewell and St Brown’s combined cap charges:

2024 - $13 million
2025 - $23.5 million
2026 - $61.1 million
2027 - $61 million
2028 - $75 million
2029 - $28.7 million

That hike from 2025 to 2026 is going to be painful.

Having 2 Lombardi trophies by then will help to soften the blow.

Both contracts are very re workable. 26 might be tough to change but 27 is very changeable.

Cap should be quite a bit higher by then

It looks like a lot of money in the announcement but its really two players in the $25-$28 range after losing a seldom-used guard (Vaitai) who was costing us $14,

But now EVERYONE (Goff) is gonna want a max deal.

The thing I love most is that neither of these boys are the type to take the big money and now coast. If anything, they are both the complete opposite, and will be highly motivated to show everyone that they are worth and will earn every single dime they are being paid. They are true corner-stone players.

Basically Sewell and St Brown got opposite contracts from what i expected. Same amount of money total. Sewell is going to be considered a financial steal by the time his extension starts.
