It was not a desirable spot imo. They were always gonna have to hire a young guy a year before he deserved it and hope they struck gold. Either that or a retread no one wants, and at least the former gives you hope.
So this guy resume is basically QB coach for Geno Smith and then Baker Mayfields OC
So he got the most out of a couple highly drafted veterans that under performed throughout their careers.
And thatās gonna translate to developing 2nd year smurf ?

Chark and old man Theilen last year. Plus the oline is weak. Young was running for his life. And the Bears have their 1st round pick.

I will say the current view of Geno has been altered by his success. Right after they traded Russ most people thought Geno was no better than Mike Glennon, Elvis Grbac, Josh Johnson, etcā¦ Career backups who had no chance of success. Reframed that way it was a pretty impressive job.
Most thought that Drew Lock was gonna win that job your right

I would be remiss if I failed to point out that Andy Reidās resume consisted of being Brett Favreās QB coach when the Eagles hired him.
In many ways, hiring a coach is as much a crap shoot as finding an All Pro in the latter half of the draft. Iāve seen some unlikely ones have inordinate success, and conversely, people with all the patents and qualifications fall flat on their face.
To succeed as a Head Coach means winning the last game of the year. Being better than the 31 best coaches in the sport, inspiring your staff to work longer to find that edge, inspiring your players to outwork the competition. Hard to predict who has that fire in their guts.
Yeah I mean this is worse than the combine in the sense we have no idea who interview who says what are they genuine yada yada
But maybe Iām just ignorant because I never heard of this guy.
Making Baker and Geno do decent with all them weapons I mean sure good job
But Iām guessing thatās the Best they could get

Smart move by a 1st time head coach with only 1 year of play calling under his belt. Even if the nutjob owner fires him he still gets paid in full for 6 years
Just because a guy calls plays doesnāt make him a top notch head coach imo. I knew Carolina wasnāt going to get a big name coach because of their idiot owner.
